Call me old fashioned, but wasn't part of the point of joining the RAF to "see the world" and have job variety, rather than getting stuck in the same job for 30 years in your home town? Surely job variety makes you a more rounded individual, and much more employable when you leave the Forces. If you have chosen to settle your family in one area, then you must have thought about the impact of future postings and how that would be managed. And if you don't like it, then pray you get offered redundancy I guess.

I hear what you're saying, and as a 'youngster' I had 6 moves in 10 years, but as you get older, perhaps people want a bit of stability and are quite happy to stay in the same area. I say area and not job, because I still believe people need a regular change of job.

newly promoted snecs in my trade who end up at leeming have it in writing that they will spend a min of 4 years there as a condition of taking the promotion, seems to fit into this 3-5 yrs in post

Interesting and at odds with Personnel Staff Instructions which state the minimum time one should spend in post is 18 months and exceptionally, with the CO's permission, 12 months.

Maybe you should read the post again?

I did and my comment stands. My point being that whilst that desk may have had approval to make such an offer, the PSIs states differently. Call me a cynic but I guarantee somewhere down the line that ruling is challenged using PSI - seen it happen countless times before.

yes and I think MC was one of them?

Yes and I think someone not too far away will not have been at leeming for the minimum 4 years before a move.....could be wrong I suppose

Seems a bit odd to me on one hand we are moving people around costing more money and yet bringing in cuts to budgets that people get for moving around.
