RAF Birthday Celebrations

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Not long now until we are 100.

What’s happening near you to recognise this?

List them on this thread for all to see?!

I’ll start...mid Cornwall...feck all that I can find!

Got to say.. the medic giving Ewan his flying medical wasn't the best advert for the RAF going...

I thought that too.

I also thought "how convenient" that both the Sqn Cdr and the Stn Cdr were available for a pax flight on the day the BBC cameras were present...

No surprise to see that the RAF is still awash with self-serving officers as it approaches its 2nd century.

Sorry but I thought the documentary was a self-serving pile of sh1t!

They missed out vast swathes of our history in exchange for a Typhoon jolly and some misty eyed remarks about how it felt.

It would have been so much better with 10 x1 hour documentaries over 10 days with each one covering a decade in the life of the RAF up to the big day.

Hmmm, the 1 hour covering our first involvement in Iraq might be deemed a little 'insensitive' in the current climate......

I sort of concur, but around here you might as well go into a mosque with a sharpie and start drawing Mohammed cartoons on the wall.

RAF100 Centenary Gala

RAF100 Centenary Gala

I went to the RAF Centenary Gala at the Royal Albert Hall yesterday. It was a fabulous celebration of the RAF's history and achievements. The most memorable bit was a section dedicated to MERT. They presented a video sequence of MERT and interviews with 2 commissioned folks, not sure of their branch...and talked about their experiences. They interviewed one patient and then all three came onto the stage. There was a loud, loooong standing ovation for all three of them. Not a dry eye in the house...very moving.

Sadly it wont be televised, but on R2 sometime soon. Not sure how QCS will translate to radio!

A great evening, very slickly put together. CAS and others were present, but took a back seat for the rest, limiting his involvement to 30 seconds of video. I thought the tone was brilliant...with a good balance between the past, present and future.

Excellent. That is what is all about.

Sounds just like the kind of program which should have either been recorded for showing later or should have been shown live.

I believe this is on Radio 2, Friday night
