cant say much at the moment but im after a bit of help/advice....

bit of background first.

we are a group of 10 raf lads serving at a dsda site , through the army.

we have been doing our own pt 3 times a week when the army have been doing there own stuff.

the station RSM has now told us we have to do the army pt including all the boot runs and bergen runs etc....

also been told we have to wear proper pt kit (i.e blue shorts and green t shirts)even though we all wear our own pt kit anyway.

What i want to know is can he force/make us do the army pt or can we carry on doing our own pt, overlooked by our chief by the way .

Is it written down anywhere in a policy about RAF pt etc..??

any ideas?

cheers

p.s or should we all man up !!:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Off TopicKineton perchance? Thank fcuk I avoided a posting to that place! Off Topic

Being as it is a tri-service site, you should not have to bow to one particular way of doing things - oh, hang on, it's the Army, so you'll have to do it anyway! :PDT_Xtremez_14::PDT_Xtremez_14:

If it's his train set (RSM) then you'll have to do it. I can't imagine that there would be anything in APs that state you don't have to do army pt or what you can and can't wear. The orders not unreasonable ie do PT in your no 1s. I think it comes down to who is in charge. I'm not being awkward, but is it that unreasonable? Or is this one of many things he has done, are most of the orders he gives akin to being in basic or does he have a thing about organised pt?

I think you will find that if it is an Army run unit then RSM has the authourity to insist you do army pt, even if you are classed as a lodger unit and if that is the case then get in touch with your parent unit, but i would suggest man up and get on with it.

If you are that unhappy Marham, Kinloss, Honington and 5131 are all looking for volunteer untermenschen....

Should really be up to your line managment used to have the same problem at a army unit i was based at the army wanted us paradeing, doing guard duty driver etc however the SNCO who ran the section being old school and taking no crap told them where to ram it and they left us alone............ however when he was posted we got pinged for alsorts as the replacement didnt have aas much spine . so you may have to do it bear in mind even the almightry answers to the RSM on a army unit .

Many moons ago at said camp the co deemed the fire station(civvy manned) will do pt,most of the lads, seemed happy to go along.it was just the issue of who was going to pay for and issue the pt kit,so it got dropped at the time,on the plus side if you start now your be well ahead of the rest of the RAF when you all become AAC in a few defence cuts time!

Army Pt etc

Army Pt etc

yep when we went on Dets that were run by the Army we had to participate in these runs with boots etc. I guess being in TCW I shouldnt have been so surprised! I still preferred the Det´s run by the RAF!

Yes, manning up is the only option here. The RSM is the main man on any Garrison. If he wants you to do PT, you will do PT. Put the boot on the other foot - if it was a soldier on a RAF station who was bleating about being told to do PT by the SWO, there would be plenty of people on here nailing him to the wall "you're on a RAF station, you'll do it our way" etc, etc.

One of the reasons the Army don't really respect us is because there are people who when embedded with the Army, whinge and cry and bleat about having to do this, that or the other. This then makes the rest of us look bad in their eyes. I have spent 50% of my RAF service in Joint environments and learned almost immediately that the only way I was ever going to gain respect and have my voice heard was by playing the game whether I liked it or not. I used to turn up to Army PT sessions and get stuck in. Sure, a lot of it was hard work, but I was making sure I was being seen by the green hierarchies and quickly gained their respect over my light blue colleagues who were seen to be less than willing. Whilst I am a Crabfat - always have been, always will be, at the end of the day no matter who I am part of, I work for my bosses, whether they be RAF, Army or RN. If they want me to do Regimental PT, I'm not in a position to say no. In the end, I got a great deal out of it and not just an increase in my fitness levels.

So, man up, dry your eyes, wipe your minge and crack on. By having an eppy about it, you're not only making yourself look like a pillock, you're quickly eroding what little respect others have for us. :PDT_Xtremez_25:

Can't really argue with one word of that !!

Lets look on the positive side shall we?
It'll be in works time. Wish I got time of for gym sessions.

(Although a beasting by some Army PTIs doesn't sound great...lol)

hey ive got no problem doing stuff with the army its just the last time i did boot runs and spent lots of time in boots i ended up with lots of leg problems and ended up downgraded and having to have an op on my legs .

now my legs are working fine i dont really want to **** them up again only to get downgraded and ruin my chances of promotion!!

i didnt mean to sound like we are trying to get out of doing pt wit the army, im quite happy doing army circuits etc , it was just the more army orientated stuff like boot runs and bergen runs etc.

Just turn up to the Bergen run with the RAF equivalent....

Although the Samsonite Run just doesn't have that ring to it....lol

The RSM's face would be a picture though.

If you have had those problems then the Med Centre will have proof, surely the RSM can let you wear trainers for the runs when faced with the evidence?

as much as I enjoy telling rents to man up, I'm with him on this one. Having been on a RAF base when the pongos turned up, we left them well alone and all was well.

It doesn't help when the army ammo techs are all lance jack straight from training (a tough 6 month-ish course) and given full screw - time promotion - within about a year (high pay band of course), leaving RAF non-NCO junior ranks (many with over ten years in the forces) getting treated like privates as that is how the heirachy see them.

If the RAF element of Kineton are happily PTing themselves up and not taking the p155 then why does some ex-PTI now RSM feel the need to get involved?

Surely a happy workforce will be more motivated than a resentful workforce?

Renton,

Man up and smash the RSM in the face. He'll soon back off when you show him who's the boss of the manor.

That's what we would have done in my time in the mob. You feckin lightweight. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

You're stuffed:PDT_Xtremez_11:

The RSM (and his goons) run the Regiment and unless you can get some RAF Snr Officer Corps top cover then you won't be 'Excused Boots'.

When I worked at AAC Wattisham we played the Pongos off against our parent unit of Honington so we managed to avoid the dreaded Combat Fitness Test.

When the Colonel tried to get our Sqn to wear 'powder puff blue' AAC berets instead of RAF berets he was politely told too fcuk off by our OC. The RSM might have won however! boxer

Good luck anyway and FEET TOGETHER JUMP!
