Hi Everyone,

Anyone able to give me some tips on how to shape the sides of a brand new SD cap?:raf:

As you have to buy your own kit the best advice is to wait and slowly allow gravity to take effect.

By the time your trousers are well half mast and your SACs havnt taken the hint about how well worn in your shoes are you should find the hat softens off slightly to give the lived in look.

The only trade that normally shapes its peaked caps (DIs are not allowed to do it anymore) are coppers, and if you can bring yourself to talk to one I'm sure they'll help you put a nice bend in it.

Apparently a chip bag is cheaper to replace than a full on SD and confuses trainees like a good un.

Stop being so cheap, get yourself over to Snaith's and part with £79 for one that is not only pre-shaped but comes with a nice velvet lining, which prevents the headaches you get with the initial issue version.

It is also a sure sign that you are a complete Gayer and fawning mong. After five years my SD hat is slowly starting to look worn in and having seen the ones from Snaiths you look like a Russian infantry officer and a gayer to boot.

Top tip you will earn far more respect try to behave like a good officer rather than trying to look like one.

If you want to waste money on a pointless piece of kit then crack on personally I wouldnt bother, then again if you enjoy waltzing around in clip clop shoes avec stable belt then blow your money on a hat or even better get a chip hat.

All that matters is your are dressed smartly and set an example to the other ranks.

Yeah, wot he said (bar his spelling and punctuation..tut tut!).
As a Junior Occifer you're gonna be regarded for a year or two as a complete mong anyway. Don't go trying to big yourself up (in your eyes) by attempting to shape your hat 'cos otherwise you'll just be regarded as a cnut of a mong and it'll drag out the 'maturing' process for a few years more! You can buy neither experience nor respect but earning both can be an awfully quick process... if you get it right!

Looking at most of the other officers I would say normal procedure is to sit on it throughout the day whilst in your office, only occasionally letting it rest to dust down your desk!

Within a week I am sure you will not look out of place amongst your fellow peers!

I'm keeping calm I'm keeping calm.....

You should have more things to think about than looking like a U-boat commander....

Agreed. I just have a different view from you on how best to do that - nothing wrong with diversity, it makes the world go round. Yes, I wear a stable belt but then I always did. I draw the line at clip-clop shoes though - just a little too pretentious even for me. :raf:

I assume from your comments that you still wear the beret issued by Cranditz too?

If it helps I had a holding officer errr holding with me recently. He gobbed off once too often and so I helped him shape his SD hat by wetting it and putting it in the freezer. He thanked me afterwards for my direction and guidnace. Honest.

Uniform:
adj.
  • Always the same, as in character or degree; unvarying.
  • Conforming to one principle, standard, or rule; consistent.
  • Being the same as or consonant with another or others.
  • Unvaried in texture, color, or design.

Standards, that's what Officers should be setting.

You certainly made an impression on the man - he mentions your name several times a day. For some reason, he likes you!

I've never known KG not make an impression on anyone!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Climebear, I almost blushed. TBJ, make sure you thrash the young holding officer several times a day whilst making jibes about the standard of his gelled/waxed/sculpted/blow dried hair falling below the standard expected of a young thruster.

Bet he's glad he asked now!!

Quality responses as ever from the goaters....
cup of corrrfeee

Lets face it, If he'd asked this question at work, he'd be able to taste the respect and admiration of his troops every time he took a sip of tea for the forseeable future.

Now THAT'S the first thing that went......any git can wear a big at', but style comes in the wearing of the otherwise shapeless avpin fire extinguisher and repository for stripped weapon parts.

If you do get a chip bag hat please wear it correctly.......Not in the middle of the head! Look back at some old photos and see how it should be positioned. Bet you get a few odd looks if you do!

Just a though..... Has anyone considered that Jannerman could be a Janner"woman" in which case "her" SD hat should certainly be shaped before donning???

If this is the case soak it using a water spray and either place in a shoe box which is a similar width to the hat to keep the sides flat until it dries or use 2 very large paperclips to grip the sides flat to the hat until it dries.
