Hi all.

I'm in the recruitment process to join the RAF Regiment as a Gunner. The next stage is the PJFT. However, I'm wondering when in the process the Regiment fitness test takes place? Is this done during the general recruitment process, or is it after graduating from Halton?

Any gen would be appreciated.

Hi DC,
No idea on the current details, I joined the Regiment way back in the day when it was 6 weeks at Swinderby and 12 at Catterick.
However, what remains the same is this: get to day 1 of your training with more or less okay physical fitness, but maintain excellent willpower. That is more important than actual fitness. Whatever the test is and whenever it is, whatever they want you to do, they will build you up to it, your part of the deal is putting in the effort, and telling yourself you can do it.
Get yourself in the right headspace you'll be fine. Good luck.
Oh, and just a personal thing. If you've got long hair, get it cut before you walk through the gates at Halton. Been there, done that, it didn't help.
Per Ardua!

Thanks Deltaitem.
No problem with the long hair... I learned soon after becoming a dad that having short hair makes life a lot easier.
That's all good advice, particularly around willpower. Willpower and determination (and doing something completely out of my experience) is part of what is motivating me to join the reserves. I've been training hard for the PJFT and RAFFT, trying to focus not just on the standards required to get in but the endurance required to be useful. Motivating myself to go that extra distance (or do the extra 10 pushups) when muscles are saying no!

All potential Gunners have to do PGAC at Honington. Best effort at everything and stay cool. You'll be watched at everything you do. Good luck (y)

Thanks - this is excellent. I've been training so far for the RAFFT, but with an eye on the higher standard required for Regiment entry. The biggest difference has been making sure my press up and sit up form matches the RAF standard.
I'm guessing that as I progress past the Fitness First fitness test, my AFCO will brief me more on what to expect/do at the next steps.
Appreciate all the info.
