RAF Vids

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Note the comment, semi-interesting, Hu. I only entered the thread when Lightnings came up (last time I saw one of those fly was at Wattisham in 91 as everybody was leaving work (aircraft was one of the BAe ones). Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY stopped to watch it take off. Maybe worth the mods moving this thread to Warfare History, the people who are not interested will then ignore it.
I must admit it was a good vid

I was at Shawbury on the Helicopter PET course in '91 when the last RAF (or so I was led to believe) Lightning came in..., the whole station came out to see the jet , fully expecting at least a high speed pass or something else other than the straight landing that occured. Didnt seem right for it to go out of service with a whimper.

Can I have Royalties please?

Can I have Royalties please?

Well done Wobbly!, I've just seen myself on the 2nd vid! Strapping a jockey in At Muhurraq in GW1 about 4min, 50secs. Feck me! I had some hair then!

Cause that's Broadcasting it. Hence, thats why I'm not posting it.

Quite right too mate. Thanks for figuring out the email glitches and sending me the clips mate. Took me right back to when I was in Germany oops bit of thread creep there.

I have already watched them several times. It is a pity the RAF don't release that sort of thing for us to buy especially now the type is obsolete. still while ever we have the goat and technical wizards like MainJafad we'll be ok.

That should not be a problem as the film was for recruiting, hence it was for the public. The first three times I saw it, I was not in the RAF (second time I saw it when the Recruiter from Illford turned up at my school (don't remember the army or navy turning up)).

Just a bit of Trivia, I've picked up from a quick Google search. Turns out 12 Squadron Buccaneers was made in 1978 and directed by one Hugh Hudson. His next film released in 1981 was also scored by Vangelis. It was called Chariots of Fire and it happened to win four Oscars (Hudson was nominated for best director, but didn't win that award, thought the film did win best picture). No wonder that Buccaneer film was so fooking good.

I must have seen it early in it's life then as I was still in Germany the first time I saw it, possibly pre release because it was shown in the squadron briefing room. I bought the album with the soundtrack on just because the film was so good. It really summed the bucc and the boys up well. It was certainly unlike any other recruiting film I'd ever seen before or since come to think of it.

Needless to say most of the little lot that I was with at the time (I first saw it in the back end of 1979) got the album for the same reason.

I have check your PM mate a fiver is a small price to pay. I'll give it you out of my Christmas money for being a good plumber all year.

Now, you can say what you like about the modern skinny supermodels, but I still have a soft spot (or should that be hard) for the big old "fat bottomed girls" of yesteryear. As a young 17 yearold on parade at Swinders I stunned when the sky went black and my ears felt like someone was jabbing knitting needles in them when one of these did a low pass.

John I know your lurking out there, so enjoy this M8, and register !

I can't believe I had a lump in my throat watching that beautiful big old bird! Ah, them were the days!

Thanks for posting that link MJ. What a blast from the past that music was; I remember the recruiting video you referred to. We really were sh!t hot back then.

How high must the aircraft have been at 1'37"!

Ok, stop now or I'll be in tears! Am I really that old? Taking a BIG nostalgia hit here!

Nostalgia....making me remember why I joined, making me forget why I left!

I remember watching the 12 squadron Buccs vid with my ATC mates in the (very) early 80's. We were all busting a gut to get in the RAF and that film made us want it even more.

another good vid is the J BAS one- i think one of the GEs made it, but its really good.... Fil i think may have a copy if memory serves me right.....

on a similar note- whoes up for the GEs bash tomorrow? see you there......:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I've got loads of in house jackass type vids, they're on my phone though. How can I get them on you tube?

In the mean time, its Army not RAF, but....

Nice Fightning video here The older Goaters may remember the music being used on an RAF recuiting film about a Bucc Sqn going to Gib for a NATO exercise (or may have been on film themselves).

666 Was that Vulcan on your Passout Parade, or the one that did the flypass in the middle of December 83. The December 83 one was Fooking impressive.
