Yes but most JT's arnt quick enough to consider that when you say it to wind them up. Especially right after they spout off about being real techies.

Mate, if all you have is 'I have Senior in my acting rank and you have Junior in your real rank' then that is a bit crap?

Fact is, most (all?) of the remaining JTs are from that abortion that was the Mech/Mech, Mech/Tech system anyway, and they were pretty much handed it to them on a plate just like you.

Lol, none of the JT's I worked with were mech/mechs, they were just useless. and Im not a ground or air spanner monkey(glorified mechanics) so I assure you I wasnt handed anything.

They would not be Mech/Mechs, that is kind of the point. As for the rest, you don't know how a spanner works so that assures me you were not handed anything? Not sure it covers that TBH, especially as by intimating you don't do spanners you were some kind of highly intelligent wizard too clever to get his hands dirty? Not with that level of spelling or failure to use a spell checker you were not.

spelling is not a measure of intelligence and I didnt realise there was a spell checker on here until I looked for it just now, still not going to download it. I assure you I did get my hands dirty, very dirty. I probably know more about spanners than you ever could, infact, if it was made out of metal I could probably make anything you ever worked with. I love bitch fights.

You seriously think this is a bitch fight? :) This is just me poking a tiny bit of fun at you as you said a few things that made you look a wee bit pretentious, like suggesting you know more about spannering than me when you have no idea who I am or what I am capable of.

Incidentally, I don't have any built in spell checker downloaded from the forum, I just know where capital letters and apostrophes go.

Apologies, I thought I had answered your original question with my first post regarding appointments and ranks.

My initial answer was an attempt to explain you were an SAC holding the appointment of SAC(Technician) You will remuster as an SAC without the appointment. The pay will remain the same.

And no, I don't love the SMS generation, I find them lazy. If you want to communicate then the idea is to make your point clear, not type as quickly as you can leaving it to the recipient to translate what you have written. Not including you in that by the way, until this last post where you are obviously taking the p1ss you were clear (apart from getting the apostrophe shotgun out, a pet hate of mine) :)

With the execption of Medics and Nurses they are. No real need for it tbh but suppose its to stay in line with the barmy army

It's timed promotion to Sgt only for most trades, then it's dead mans shoes for the rest of the ranks structure. When I joined they said it was timed because if it were not, with such small trades in comparison to the 'real' RAF we wouldn't be able to attract anyone to join, so we had to be given something to compensate for the lack of pay/promotion prospects,more importantly it was to make the military a more attractive career than the civilian sector. For example a 2yr qualified Allied Health Professional/nurse with my qualification can earn £30-35k in the private sector & £22-28k in the NHS basic wage. Add onto that the overtime etc.. then the military isn't really coming up to that, or on comparison hasn't got much to offer. A high band top increment Sgt is only on £37k, and you'll be on that for a long time. It isn't a bad wage at all but it's taken me 17yrs to get to that. I'm not moaning, I like being in the military over and above the civilian world anyday of the week-i've worked in both for a long time, i'm just making an educated guess as to why timed promotion is in effect for certain medical trades. DMS 2020/Tranche 2 may changes things tho! Good luck with your career.

Just to update this thread. The information should have filtered through to the grand old Medical Trade Training Unit, however in case they have not seen fit to pass on the information: As of 1 Mar 12 SACs in Specialist trades within TG15, will be able to wear SAC(T) rank slides.

It's only taken 9 years.

DIN and IBN will be published shortly and by 1 Mar information will be in AP 1358 and AP 3376 Volume 2.

Yaay, no demotion.

You wouldn't have been "demoted" if you had been returned to SAC on qualification as SAC(T) has no seniority over SAC and your pay wouldn't have been affected either. The "rank" slide is technically a skills discriminator.

It took me 3 years to earn that circle. having to take it off over some red tape would have been the biggest kick in the teeth and is defo a demotion. SAC(T)'s are equal to JT's in every aspect except time served, SAC's arn't.

Most definitely not a dig but;

This may be true in your trade but is not in all. There are aspects of training which were carried out during FT training for JTs which are not carried out during FT training to SAC(T)

This was recognised by extra training being required for TG1 ex SAC(T) during TMT, when they were supposed to get that training they missed during FT.

That argument only works if comparing people of the same trade. Does an SAC(T) with 4 years of experience in his/her given trade have greater seniority than say a TG17 SAC with 6 years experience. No of course not. The badge only highlights that you are a qualified technician within your chosen trade, with seniority over those within your chosen trade, as those without it are not yet qualified.

Dont get me wrong I think it is a good thing for the trade. But I also think that with hindsight you will see that in the grand scheme of things it wont make a blind bit of difference to how you are peceived as a technician. Particularly in a tri-service environment or when dealing with people who are rank concious and disregard the fact that you spent 2+ years doing a civilian foundation degree as part of your trade training.

But on the plus side it will stop people asking if you are a medic.... Maybe!

That sounds like a dig at our brown counterparts?!

Maybe see you on our visit tommorow. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Well to give you an example;

An Army SSgt Chef in Afghanistan, took exception to the team sending an SAC down to collect copies of the weekly menus in order to help patients who had D&V remember what they had eaten that week. His words to the SAC were "kinnell, I can't believe they sent a Young Tom down to do something as important as this". He was collecting menus FFS!

This SAC is 34 years of age, has a degree in Environmental Management, a foundation degree in Environmental Health and is a qualified Occupational Hygienist.

Would it have made a difference if he had the "circle of power" on his chest? I very much doubt it.

Unfortunately this attitude is not exclusive to our brown cousins and has occasionally been witnessed from our own.

In today's Air Force when people are joining up at a later age and have oodles of life and work experience prior to joining, their rank is not always an accurate indicator or experience or ability. But there is no getting away from the rank structure I guess.
