So troops what are we up to this remembrance weekend?

Me I'm off to the service at the Cosford museum with an old Royal signals buddy of mine. Hopefully I'll see a few faces from back in the day and take time to remember those I knew who have passed.

Probably going to go to the local war memorial, not been since I left but I think now is right.

I will be with family at our local war memorial. Lost and missing family and friends will be brought to mind.

We will remember them...

I'll be in Stamford on Sunday as usual, and will go to the memorial in Peterborough High St on Monday for 1100 as I'm at work in office that day. Might even try and persuade a couple of my team to join me, as it seems to pass most of my colleagues by each year.

Excellent turnout in Stamford today, and our MP showed up too. She might not be from the party of my choice, but I dont recall seeing the previous two MPs ever show up to the Stamford event.

I wonder if Farage attended a Remembrance parade in Clacton today.

Attended the Cosford event in the museum hangar. A slick ,professional and well ordered affair with not to much god-bothering from the padre. Kudos to the young space cadet lady who play the last post and reveille extremely well. There was even a clump of PTI's marching about. Attendance, to my eyes, was markedly up on previous years say 30% more folk this year than last. It's always indoors so not affected by any weather considerations and as my old Army buddy who's in his 70's said "and you always get a seat". Just the right blend of choir singing from the military wives, just enough thought provoking readings by selected folk. All in all a damn good show and each year is better and more organised than the one before. If anyone involved in all the hours of back ground work is reading this good job folks good job.

Went over to where our daughters family live as our grandaughter was doing a reading in church and her boyfriend who was parading with Explorers. Also parading were child / youth representatives from the Fire Cadets, ACF, Explorers, Cubs, Brownies and even Rainbows who walked up to memorial in turn, slowly laid their wreath, backed off and bowed their heads in respect, it was lovely to see the pride they took.
Now pro Police as I am being ex Civpol and RAF, I have to say how disappointed I was in the attitude of a young WPC representing the local force who nonchalantly walked upto the memorial and all but tossed the wreath down before simply turning around and walking away. Unfortunately overhearing other conversations it seems I wasn’t the only one less than impressed with her effort.. I’d like to think she let herself down..and not the Force.

Good turnout at our sea front war memorial on a bright sunny morning. All who took part (a large proportion of them being cadets and youth organisations) did so with dignity and decorum and our overseas visitor, present for the first time, was impressed with the proceedings.

As usual a small but dignified service at the Airborne Cemetery in Oosterbeek, with wreathes laid by several ex-military, local and British organisations.

Just arrived back in the UK after attending a service in Berlin with a stop off at Overloon in the Netherlands yesterday morning.

As war rages on the borders of modern Europe, it becomes even more apparent that those who made the ultimate sacrifice may not be the last.

I was at the Cenotaph at Whitehall, all arms of the forces were included as well as lots of foreign representation and other organisations, it was an honour to see.
Met a few mates in the pub afterwards and was asked to join the parade next year, needless to say I said yes.

Excellent turnout in Stamford today,

I've just driven up the A1 past Stamford and the nearby secret former Harrier base.

As I drove past, I looked left and stared a bit too long at "she that shall not be named"

Any advice regarding my personal safety will be graciously received.

We popped up to town . Nice ceremony at the memorial with a fair few people present. Our MP was there. Some children from local primary school attended, two of them laid a wreath. Nice to see.

We were in Lincoln, so stayed for the high street memorial service, nice to see the young children getting involved, one old fella had so many medals they nearly spanned both halves of his chest, sadly not many left. The young lady who played the bugle did a good job bless her, considering it was a bit parky, only a few odd notes, the ex RSM/WO/whatever was rather enthusiastic barking out his commands, but was really good with the schoolchildren who laid wreaths.

Been a busy 2 weeks manning poppy tables etc. Saturday the vets walked around Middlesbrough Football Club then Sunday off to Stockton for the parade. For the last 4 years I have led the veterans, eyes left, eyes right malarky to the cenotaph and podium. Probably the first, I as veteran token crab, was joined a couple of others. Always a good day out where Regts and Corps have no barriers. Spend most of my day with Falkland Para veterans whose shouty man is the Parade Marshall.

Usually parade with my association at Whitegall, but work, distance and some personal politics with the present boss of my old unit saw me march with the veterans in Morpeth. The area around the war memorial and route of march was rammed. CI with the local RAFAC sqn so had that priority as well.

I would normally have been at Belfast but for the first time in 10 years I wasn't, due to a wedding. However I was sent a pic of one RAF SNCO who was in need of some new uniform shall we say, or maybe needs to lose a BIT of weight.
