Ok I'll keep this short and sweet.

What is the policy surrounding remustering? SAC TG4 ICT Tech to RAF Police, is this even possible?

Thanks in advance.

Are RAFP recruiting and will your trade sponsor let you go? Have you completed any ROS?

I believe the trade have just or are about to open for a small number but not sure if that would include remuster best thing to do would be speak to your chief shark mate.

You want to go from a normally under subscribed and under manned trade to one that isn't, good luck with that.

You've got to be released from your current trade, probably after any ROS, and you've got to time this approval with the trade opening for recruitment, in the current situation it aint easy.

RAFP are short for their into trade targets for this year but badly overmanned on the whole. Give it a whirl and see what happens!

After looking at recent recruitment briefs, it seems they are currently processing applications with future availability being later this year. My post was literally an enquiry I haven't made any formal application as of yet.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to pop in to PSF and ask tomorrow. I'm so keen to remuster.

It's worth a try.

If they are short does that mean they will look to recruit more or simply accept the shortfall?

Ok so this morning I have done some digging.

TG4 is predicted to be overmanned by Dec 12.
RAF Police is already overmanned however is falling. By Dec 12 they will be 9% over.

The AP states that I need to of completed 3years Return Of Service (ROS) from my basic trade training course. Is this from the start or from graduation?

If from graduation then I still have a further 18months to wait.
If from the start then I am eligible to apply now taking into account the 6month PVR time.

It's not looking good is it? :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Your ROS starts from when you left trade training.

Ouch I've got ages till I can leave the trade then :(
Is that the same for PVR?

What is it about the trade you are not enjoying? If you have done 18 months you must be due if not already received your Q-Ops, nice wee pay rise there. Ask for a posting if it's the job you are not enjoying. The trade is so diverse wrt jobs you can do that just because you don't like one aspect doens't mean you won't like another.

Your return of service applies to you leaving the Service and may not necessarily prevent you from remustering. The biggest barriers to you being allowed to remuster are the manning levels of both the trade you wish to leave and the one you wish to join. Irrespective of what the FMDL may say, I can tell you that we are recruiting for TG4 at the moment but not for RAFP. That suggests your current trade would be unwilling to let you leave and, more importantly, RAFP don't have room for you right now.

Really? The AP seems clear as day that you need to complete your ROS before remustering.

What don't I do enjoy about the trade?
- DII
- Being deskbound
- The fact it's a civvi job just in uniform
- The boredom
- The lack of "military" stuff
- The predictiveness
- How stuff which the trade do is gradually be given to civis

It's just a normal 8-5 job, not what I wanted from the military. Don't get me wrong it's a good trade, a very good trade if you want to get some good qualifications behind you.

I've done 4 different jobs now mate. Since starting basic I've not enjoyed it but I thought I would give it a chance. I've done 18months on unit as well as a 4month OOA.

There's always flexibility, e.g., if your current trade was overmanned and the one you wanted to remuster into undermanned you wouldn't find too many obstacles to your path. Slightly different scenario but much the same principle - if it were available, you were eligible and you wished to apply for aircrew or commissioning you would not have to wait 3 years.

Unfortunately I don't think you have much chance of remustering to RAFP in the immediate future but having said that, don't take what you read on here to be gospel. Speak to your Chf Clk.

You could overcome all of the things you say you dislike by doing a tour on TCW. Since you seem to have little choice but to stay in TG4, for a while at least, why not give that a go?

As TBJ has said, the best way to get out of the boring Dii I-Hub role is change your JPA preferences to routine posting, north yourkshire, RAF|CIS|BASIC. And in free text specify TCW. This should hopefully get moved fairly quickly.
