Retraction Of Promotion Offer

  • Thread starter Thread starter I cant believe it!

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Of course I want the promotion, its what I have worked for, however if a different area had originally been offered I would of talked to my wife and probably taken it, however having been told that I am staying in the same area and then potentially being given a completly different area, I would probably be reluctantly forced to turn it down due to family circumstances, not the course of action I want to take, but what comes first family or location?

For me it is always family and it seems to be for most people I speak to, which is why I asked the question.

What are the options then? It is too late to offer you one of the posts that have been filled by people lower on the PSL than you. It may be possible for you to be promoted in situ a la Bitburger's mate - I suspect that decision may come down to your Stn budget manager so you might well have a fight on your hands to make that happen. In reality, I suspect you will have to wait for the next available post even if that is 6 months away and if you feel compelled to turn down that offer when it comes there will be nothing else you can do.

As a side issue: all my Service, people have spoken of "consequence of error" as a way to scale the trades (putting clerks at the bottom alongside stewards, musicians, etc.). Now nobody has died here today, but ICBI's strong (and justified) feelings on this matter show just how much impact a clerical error can have. Just a thought.

Couple of issues raised:
If you are released to the Main PSL then you will receive an offer of prom, subject to the normal checks. If you remain on the Reserve PSL by the time that the PSL closes (Normally 1 month prior to the next PSB) then you go back into the pot and recompete.
I reiterate that I'm not sure what happened here - was it a mistake, was the post chopped, upgraded/downgraded, moved ..... drafters/CM's have nothing to do with posts, other than filling established vacancies.
When I said the CM would be disappointed I was not exempting that individual from any criticism, nor in any way defending them. Sadly, in every walk of life mistakes are made. This would appear to be one of those. I used the phrase "genuine mistake" because I have never known a drafter knowingly (and therefore maliciously) make a prom offer for a post that doesn't exist. It just doesn't happen. I am sure that the CM concerned is disappointed, and will remain so.
I also said that I thought redress would not help, and I stand by that comment, despite others believing you should gather evidence, make notes etc. Simply, and without trying to sound brutal, even if you redress, if there is no established vacancy at the location, you cannot be posted there.
I would urge you to engage with your Chf Clk and attempt to identify a way forward. The Chf Clk can speak to the CM on your behalf and try to identify a vacancy, although there is no guarantee that this will be in your AOC. That said, if you wish to redress, please feel free to do so, but I'm unsure what it will achieve if there are no vacancies in your AOC.
If you wish to pm me please feel free.

Whilst I understand your frustration here, I don't see the point of annoying the CM or ACOS manning for the sake of a Redress (or whatever they are now) that probably will achieve very little. (I was always very nice to Tommo9999 when he was my drafter and it was only since he left that I giving him some lip. Now he's going back there :PDT_Xtremez_30:, I suppose I'll have to be nice again!)

Work with the CM/Chf Clk and see what can be achieved for you as I'm sure they will do their very best to find you what you want now. As has been said, once released from the board, which you will have been to receive the offer in the first place, you will be used at some stage. Take the moral high ground with them and be reasonable (whilst seething behind their backs) and you could find out it works for you in the end - I hope it does.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice, think I need to sit back over the weekend and see what I am offered before I make any rash decisions.

I hope the rest of you dont run into the same sort of problems as I have!

on a similar vein to the discussion, i had been told i had been released in feb and had to wait, only to be contacted in july by a sheepish drafter to explain that if i wanted my tapes, i had to go from CISTech (tg3) to CISIM(ex-tg11) because they had ballsed up the manning, i accepted the offer only because of my 2 little chumpzillas and mrs c. Promptly got shoved on a field squadron instead of computery type job i explicitly asked for! God bless PMA and all who funk her!
