Agreed, it's not MT drivers' fault if their trade sponsors actually stand up for them and at least attempt to ensure they get a good rest. It always annoys me that an MT driver, or aircrew are given stated enforced rest periods, yet the same does not appear to be an issue for those maintaining said MT vehicles or aircraft. Crazy.

It's not just our trade sponsor who stands up for us... I can't remeber his name, but the Gp Capt that heads up Logs, earlier on this year wrote an official letter, which should be in every MT section, if not issued to every MT Driver - I have a copy in my work folder.

It stated the regulations from the JSP 800 and that whilst transiting through units (not posted there) "at every avalible opportunity" an MT Driver is to be accomodated in single occupancy rooms and predominantly away from shift workers.

This is to stop guys that get to thier transit unit late in the evening (say 2300) then are put into multiple occupancy rooms potentially with shift workers that will be getting up early (0600 perhaps), that driver then hasnt had their mandatory (under EU Law) undisturbed 11hrs rest / 9hrs reduced rest (up to 3 times per fortnight) then that driver cannot legally drive for another 9 - 11hrs!!!

Joe_90, who says we're school faliures? Try meeting a few and actually speaking to them, rather than trying to put words in sentences that really shouldn't be "cheers drives"!!! I'm an MTD and proud of it, I chose to be an MTD even after I spent years at college getting my FdSc!!!

I did speak to a number of them when I was up at ISK and ISL, most were young, barely educated idiots who subsequently behaved to type and ended up being next to useless, after quickly getting themselves banned from driving for DUI.

I am surrounded by them, and some of them are very very special.

Mind you, they cant half bull their shoes and crease their trousers & shirts - its all about appearance y'knaw!

Damn right I am not a MOD, are you?

Are any of you worthy soles either going to cap this or send it somewhere where the gloves can come off, of just sit on your fat asses watching this turn into a trade bashing session.

I've had cause to meet a fair few over the years and they were dullards to a man. On one memorable occasion I took the mobile phone from the idiot who was talking to his bird and driving me home at 60mph at the same time. I told him that I didn't spend 4 months in Iraq only to be killed by a professional driver on the way home. He wasn't best pleased but the one thing they do seem to understand is rank so he just kept his mouth shut.

As for having lots of useful civvy Q's, I have held all the Q's a driver holds other than a D licence, all paid for by the RAF. That includes ADR until it ran out a few years back. I'm avoiding regaining that one as it means a trip to Leconfield where IQ points are stolen every day you have to spend there.

In short I can do nearly everything a driver can do, if I can pass a C+E and D1 test I am sure a D test would be just as easy. I can also do the job I'm actually paid to do.

I will (although my ass is not fat, just well padded)

Gents, this is in Service Gen, not the bar or Fight Club.

As such try to stay reasonably on topic and not let the whole content of your post be a Trade Bash for no other reason than you can.

ithangyew.

Is that the place where you are all treated like idiots and that they teach you to remove wheel nuts with a torque wrench?

Mr SCJ

That's the one, it's also probably part of the problem with MTDs at the moment. They interact with the pongos far too much and end acting as stupidly as them. I got in trouble as a JT for telling the civvy instructor to eff off when he asked me to demonstrate changing a blade fuse in a 4 tonner. I thought he was joking.

As I recall .......they work to the lowest common denominator, and haven't the ability to filter out personnel who have more then one brain cell.

Probably due to being at quite a low level of general intelligence themselves.

Mr SCJ

I quite enjoyed doing my C+E at Lec. But that was probably because I was in the Snecs Mess, and did my driver training down at the Rugby Cub in Hull. Was on it with a rock Cpl (rest of the course - Army) and we had a laugh.

Man I can NEVER resist a dig at Leconfield. Worst establishment I have ever, ever had the displeasure to visit. Treated like a child. Massive restrictions. I had a huge list of complaints on the course critique at the end, mostly associated with being over 30 but treated like a school child, but was told 'you're not allowed to complain!'. A place for mongs, run by mongs.

Apparently the Army completely detest the place too, some of the comments I have heard is that the civvies out bulls1t the Army and the majority of the instructors are ex SNCOs or WOs and don't let you forget it.

Okay all you drivers out there. Please confess to who has stolen Joe_90's toys or knobbed his Mum, Sister or Nan because this is quite frankly getting very boring.
If you tell him that his mum said that he was better than you, then he might just leave us all alone ;)

Happy Christmas Joe (and your mates).

Leconfield?

What an absolute ****hole. I remember being double timed to the RSM for my usual RAF humour (Threatened with an RTU for being a 'Gobby Crab *******').

For some reason, each syndicate had an experienced Cpl 'Discip' assigned to them. This one morning he had us all paraded (4 Beer loving JT's and 6 of the thickest Pongoes I have ever met!) because the Army Trainees had taken to copying us by leaning against a wall, waiting for the days lessons to start. He then had all the girls poke their tongues out, checking for tongue studs too which I asked if he wanted to see our Prince Alberts.......it didn't go down well.

Anyway, the thick pongoes on our course. Two of them couldn't write and one of them couldn't spell his name. The lessons would also take about 4 times longer than they had to for our green friends to 'Learn'. That week, that whole bloody week of Theory Testing was sheer torture, all of us JT's had the thing memorised by Monday lunchtime.

Thank Christ we had completed the course when we did as the whole 10 o'clock curfew kicked off that same day. Worst place ever.
