Sat Nav

I have got a tomtom 700 and its great.
I have had no problems and I can enter addresses, postcodes etc.
I can upload positions of interest (LPG stations, RAF stations etc) from the web.
It works as a hands free phone because it connects to my phone through bluetooth.
I got a genuine factory refurbished one which seemed brand new to me from
www.totalpda.com.
Tomtom have got to be the best.

Garmin have their uk plant about 10 miles from me. I tryed one of their GPS thingys once and got bored with it. A good old paper map suites me !

Garmin Nuvi 300 is recommended by Which magazine.
We have an in built sat nav on the Grand Cheroke..it tends to send us around the houses somewhat at times but it has to be said its superb. But then again i would get lost fighting my way out of a paper bag.My sence of direction is crap.So needless to say at least i get to mys destination now:PDT_Xtremez_19: !

The amusing voices, although I think the 'Tony Blair' one was a bit rubbish: "Do a u-turn", "Do a u-turn". "Do a u-turn" :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Is that similar to the one of Dave Cameron saying "Follow Tony". "Follow Tony", "Follow Tony"?

This could be the start of some suggestions for SatNav voices...

I use a paper map. £3 from the nice Sri Lankan fellows at the Total Garage.

Seriously, I can see these things having very limited use once every bugger has one. It's all very well that the unit tells you there is a snarl up on the motorway 3 miles ahead, but what then happens? You guessed it, everyone with a traffic master turns off onto the same narrow "A" road making that even more congested than the motorway was!

As I say, I'll stick with a map for now ta.

Beware Garmin products. Very US orientated and map updates cost a pretty penny!

Well i went for the small option of TomTom5 mobile. This runs on a Nokia like the 6630 N73, etc. This means when you leave your car you have it with you instead of leaving it for some theiving sod to nick. Also means when you have to jump in someone else's car or a works motor you have got it with you. Just gets a little GPS device to carry with you, one you have connected them via blue tooth you can sling it in your coat or bag and forget about it. You can still get all the extras that you can with a full TomTom, ie all the different voices and camera locations etc but just goes in your pocket when you leave the car.

I was thinking of getting the TomTom mobile for my Nokia N70, but there seems to be loadsa versions available. How much should it cost, and is anyone running it on this phone?

Plus has anyone used this on a bike as I'm not about to shell out £500 for a Rider.

Im running the Nav4all software on my mobile phone (Sony Erikson w850i)

Nav4all

software is free, at the moment, all you'll neeed is a bluetooth GPS receiver which i got off ebay for about £40...

just about every make and model of phone and PDA is catered for

I have a Navman F20 and it is superb! I've been using it a lot recently navigating around unfamiliar areas during resettlement and it's not let me down. Now all I need to do is afford the traffic pack update which I've seen so far for £70 unless anyone knows any cheaper?

Hey Crystal, thats what I ended up buying :PDT_Xtremez_30: loving it so far! Just need to find a mains adapter.

I gave my new Navman a test run today...plotted in a car park just off Hyde park and it got me there no bother all the way through the smoke...Very New years day'ish' going to the big fair down there...

I'm going to have to change the voice though as I've already got one female nagging me in the car...:PDT_Xtremez_31:

From this thread I'm gathering Navmans are either really popular or just plain cheap...I wouldn't know as Santa brought mine.

Evening all and a happy new year to you all.
Chrissy pressie was a Navman 300 series, I have played and fallen in love :PDT_Xtremez_30: An excellent toy !!

I want to turn the voice off, she bugs me and he's just as bad, so will have to turn the volume down :D

go HERE
for the cheapest ones you can get. £70 less than argos

Bought the wife a TomTom 510 as her Xmas pressie. Got it from Curry's, as they had a special promotion offer on at the time (dunno if still exists) which included free traffic updates for life (i.e. no annual subscription required) at the touch of a button - same feature recalculates the route for you as well, if you deviate off course. Wasn't bothered about the European or US route maps, so this was ideal for us. Whole lot cost £300, which I didn't think was bad - and Mrs Notso is chuffed to bits with her new toy!

It's possible to get a GPS thingy for the PSP, if you have one, so you don't have 2 gadgets when one would do.

Umm............I went out and bought a 2007 AA road map for 4.99:PDT_Xtremez_26:

I'm seriously thinking of getting sat nav so have been reading some of these posts with great interest. I was thinking of a TomTom but now this nav man one sounds good. Wgaf, I have got a map too but dont like using it always worried I may cause a 10 car pileup whilst trying to read it!!!
