Saurez banned

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Now I'm Utd through and through but I have to say, trouble seems to follow Evra. Not that I'm condoning Suarez's behaviour, but Evra seems to look for agro.

As for Terry, aren't the civvy bill looking at doing him???

If this happened then surely the police should investigate as it has been proven (by the FA) to have happened..?

As for John Terry, if he has done it, then I can't see him playing for England again.

I think Suarez has been done over. If the reports on the BBC website and the Liverpool statement are corroborated, then he has effectively been convicted on the word of one person. No one has testified to hearing the incident, there is no video evidence of it, no audio evidence and nothing in the match report from the ref. If it was a court of law...well it would never even get to the courts if it was only your word against his. If Suarez makes this a legal challenge I can see this being overturned and the FA in some serious hot water.

I applaud the FA for trying to get racism out of the game, there is no place for it, but I still feel they have made a major fcuk up here.

To flip the no evidence theory over, does it mean that its ok to racially someone as long as no-one else hears? After all it is one persons word against anothers

with the theory of innocent until proven guilty that is exactly what it means.

Sucks doesn't it?

As for John Terry, millions lipread what was said, there is no context possible to justify it, there has been a police enquiry which found sufficient evidence to set before the CPS so if justice is to be seen to be done that will be his England career over, possible jail and at least 8 games ban.

Part of the Liverpool FC Statement. "We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation"

The whole statement

http://www.koptalk.co.uk/2011122041...-fc-issue-statement-following-suarez-ban.html

The problem is, TB, that with the statement from Sepp Blatter that racism in football doesn't really exist and all of the controversy that surrounded it, the FA see themselves as having to prove a point that it IS a problem in the modern game and WILL be dealt with in the severest way possible. As sad as it makes me, I can see thei point in a way.

Now a precedent has been set, it will be interesting to see the action the FA take with Terry, notwithstanding what the Met will do. After all, as has been pointed out here, he was SEEN to say those things. Take anything less than the strongest action possible and the FA will lose all credibility with the footballing community - fans, players, officials - for many years to come.

So is it against the LAW of this land to call someone a N*GG*R ie, a criminal offence? If I used the word in my house, when there was just me and my wife around, is that illegal? Just to make it clear, this is not something I do by the way.

Thought crimes eh? Who'd have thought enacting Orwell's 1984 would be so difficult in reailty?

He didn't call him that. What he said was negro which is Spanish for black. So he got an 8 match ban for referring to a black player as black.

Did he? Or did he use the word 'nigreto' which is, apparently, a commonly used term in Latin American countries and is on a par with calling someone jock or taffy or scouse in this country. There is even a milk chocolate drink in Mexico called Nigreto believe it or not.
Its all about intent though, if Suarez did use the word Nigreto did he say it knowing it had offensive undertones in this country, or did he genuinely think he was just poking fun at a player he'd had in his back pocket all game? Mens rea, only he knows.

Shows how times change, the first suit I bought from John Colliers was dark brown, the guy who measured me was Caribbean and the material was described as ****** brown linen. Nobody batted an eyelid. I still have a copy of Agatha Christies book about several men of colour.

He said himself that he used the word negro when Evra had a go at him about a previous tackle.
