Volunteers required

As a follow up to the Selly Oak visit on 29 Aug 08, I've been asked to organise the redecoration of a families room located at the Selly Oak Alex Wing.

The details and dates are to be confirmed at the moment as co-ordination with the DMWS for when the room will be vacant is required. There will be some accommodation available courtesy of Sisterpain. Sisterpain will also be our liason with the DMWS and Selly Oak.

If you want to help out either post or PM me.

Also
Is anyone coming south past Durham that is willing to pick up some items for Selly Oak from laboratoryqueen and drop them off at a certain central lincolnshire airbase, PM me if you can help.

Having visited Selly Oak, this is a thoroughly worthwhile cause and deserving of your time.

1 Willing volunteer has stepped forward, 2 including myself!

Seems like a good thing

Top skills to carry out the re-decoration but when is this re-decoration to take place? Got any dates?

Apologies if the info is somewhere else on the goat.

Aplogies if its somewhere else on here I am to IT illiterate to find it.

Codemonkey is running the show but I hope he won't mind me stepping in. The option to decorate and the timing depends on availability of the room and the DMWS being able to guarantee it is empty. So basically at the moment it is anyone's guess. We woud however require a plaque or some such fancy piece of "handicraft" to put on the door when we finish:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Or anyone from Leeming heading down Lincolnshire way.

When more details are known, I'll try and help. I'm not particulalry strong, but I can just about manage a paint roller and a kettle for a brew.

Will any tools be on site or what's needed ?

Time for a bump.

Come on folks all we are asking for is half a dozen of you to give up a weekend. Part of which would be a night spent eating curry and drinking lager.

Seriously we need volunteers to make this work.

Also any stackers at Leeming willing to send a couple of boxes on the old boy network to Waddo would be a good start.

I'll need some dates Gem/CM before I can commit.

Sorry fella's - not everyone is a daisy.

That is a fair enough, What we do need though is "subject to date" shows of interest. Not even a full weekend committment either offer of a few hours would be welcomed. Bearing in mind we are simply looking at decorating one room, emulsioning walls, glossing woodwork and basic DIY.

Probably a good community project for youth groups, ATC and a definite plus for a potential new recruit.

I can help, although I'm of limited talent when it comes to practical stuff. Perfectly prepared to come and muck in, just need as much notice as possible of dates.

I would be willing to help out, dependant on dates (shift worker unfortunately!) and my dad has loads of DIY stuff which Im sure I could borrow if needs be.

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you all for the offers of help, i was in contact with Sisterpain the other day but she is away from work. Once she gets back to work we can start a little forward planning.

As soon as i can start getting prospective dates i'll get them on here.

I'm up for that (date permitting). OK I'm a Burd but Ive also lived on my own for 9 years and the decorating fairy didn't do my walls.

Might be worth, once there is a definate list, to sort a bit of a car share type thing or SIF Minibus hire?

Car share is probably the way forward.

Whilst we are a little too far away to be any constructive help this time we will be in the area of Selly Oak between Xmas and New Year....

Let me know if we can help with anything around then!

Update

Update

Just a bit of an update, Sisterpain has put me in contact with the lady in charge of welfare at Selly Oak, As soon as i get some more info(dates etc...) i will post it here.

The DMWS are fantastic. They all deserve alot more recognition for the commitment they show to the injured and their families.

Anything we can do to help them is too little, but put me down for a paint brush and a Chicken Jalfrezi!

Well that's another 2 volunteers to the list. I hope to hear from the DMWS next week, hopefully we will be able to get the ball rolling fairly quickly then.
