Should Everyone in TG4 do a tour on TCW?

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
'Tiger Team' is a term used on 90SU, especially 5(IS) Sqn. Basically it's a team held at R2 ready to deploy if needed, whether it's an installation/recovery of kit or to rectify a major fault.

So, are they like a combination of what used to be GRIS and N. Luffenham 3rd line?

And what is B Troop? We all know TCW are Special Forces:PDT_Xtremez_30:. Are B Troop the top secret ubit within TCW:PDT_Xtremez_19::PDT_Xtremez_14:?

I think they only do the deployable IT systems, the ERAS bays are at 90SU & do the work that N Luff/Sealand used to do.

TCW are very special, never any dirty windows in that hangar.

B Troop are located in the Cheltenham area.

Say no more:PDT_Xtremez_30:.

Tiger Teams aren't just a 90SU thing, there was a lad on my TMT who worked with the army, he was about to join their Tiger Team, I think it's just a generic term for the section who are at readiness to go out on faults/tasks. I may be off the mark, but it's defo not just a 90SU thing.

B Troop are part of JSSU(C), based at Imjin Barracks, near Gloucester. I am led to believe they are in a similar sort of game to TCW, just with different equipment.

I didn't think it was purely a 90SU term, I just know it is used there. Somebody came up with the concept for teams held at readiness.

Off Topic

The term 'Tiger team' has been around for years, at least since the 60's when NASA formed a Tiger team to investigate the problems with the Apollo program.

Don't you just love Wikipedia

The tiger team is not 90su or tg4 specific, it a readiness team for any unit/section/regt.

I have friends in other Tg that are on their own tiger teams.

OK

Should there be a an expectation to do TCW, 1ACC or 591 at some point in a 22yr career instead? and when you have done 1 not to be sent to either of the other 2?

Goaters should note that these are not the only sections that have an R2 status, spend a loat of time away from home station, nor are they they only ones dealing is "specialities" (be it IT or not) e.g. DIO.

Going back to the original post, totally agree that some form of deployable job e.g. what was GRIS earlier on in a career, expands your knowledge of both your job and the RAF as you get to see all the camps that you DON'T want to get posted to!
