Hi,

NEED ADVICE WITH SIGNING ON TO 22. I have completed all relevant PROMOTION courses with no admin marks against my name. However I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY SIGNING ON PAPERWORK. I have ASKED SEVERAL people on my unit, and this seems to be a disturbingly common problem that seems to be growing. So to put a few things straight, I am aware that there is some kind of backlog and I have spoken to all the relevant people in my chain of command but I still don't seem to be getting anywhere. I have also spoke to admin, and well, i'll leave that just there! and I still don't have my paperwork through. What can I physically do to hasten this paperwork, and is it a given that I will receive the offer for further service on completion of my courses, given the current climate. I feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall at the moment and I know an awful lot of people are in the same boat. I was advised to give it 3 months before I hasten, by the TS. However that has long gone and I feel I have run out of doors to knock on.

Any help or advise in this matter will be greatfullly received. As I can pass it on to all my fellow JNCO'S

How many times do we here the same bloody question?

My LOS 30 took 3 months to come through after TMT2 and IMLC.

When did you become substantive?

I'll try and translate what I think he's saying:

Q. I've done my pre-requisite courses for substansive promotion, yet no offer for 22 yrs has come through - why not?

A. It could be down to a few things:

1. Your course completion was not recorded on JPA, so the "system" still has you as an a/Cpl. A check by your clerks can ascertain this and can be sorted easily. The offer will then come out within about a month.

2. You have a medical marker against your name. It may be a permanent downgrade in which case there wont be an offer, or it may be a temp one, in which case the offer wont come until you are upgraded.

3. You have so much time left on your current engagement that the offer can be sent out later than those who are equally entitled but have much less unexpired time - its called prioritising and tends to work quite well.

4. You only passed your courses within the last 3 months - if this is the case, give the system a chance as the offers are still manually processed by a very small team. Personally, I would suggest chasing it at the course pass + 6 month point.

With all due respect to yourself, buddy. You already have your pensionable engagement!

However in response to your question. I completed my final course 4 months ago and JPA still states that I am acting CPL.

If you feel you are getting dicked around then go direct to your boss and ask can he/she ask the Squ Ldr to chase this up or at least the WO. If you do it in an email and voice your concerns then that is sometimes easier than facing directly the same bull**** they give to lower ranks these days.

The key here is to have copies of it all , if you feel you are not getting what you deserve then you have the right to go higher, as a newly promoted NCO I understand you dont want to get your career off to a bad start but on the same note you are an NCO and you are required to go direct to the top if you see an issue within your work place. The same issues apply with your welfare and your workmates welfare.

Thats only my advice but im not supply Im a Techie and we get ****ed over everytime nobody really cares anymore.

If you feel like you have nobody thats giving a damm (and right now peoples concerns are in other places then go have a quiet chat with the Padre, he can help more than God and be in confidentiallity)

Your FS or the WO should be your first port of call.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Thanks, although I have ALREADY TRIED BOTH OF THOSE AVENUES with lots
of promises with no end product. Thats why I posted this question on here. As I usually get
better answers on this site.

Then (to use your favorite method of getting a point across) I SUGGEST YOU ASK YOUR ADMINERS TO GET YOUR RANK CHANGED TO SUBSTANTIVE. One phonecall to the appropriate cell is all it takes.

If you have no joy there, approach the Chief Clerk.

I have my pensionable engagement because I chased up my substantive rank. We have said a few hundred times that the offer of 22 is on promotion to SUBSTANTIVE RANK; not just the fact that you have done your courses.

Good to see you've learned to spell substantive...:PDT_Xtremez_14:

I was in a similar situation on promotion to CPL. I phoned the relevent clerk at PSF and chased down the fact I was still acting months after my promotion courses. Not that long after me contacting PSF it was all wrapped up and the offer of 22 was kicked off.

However, if you talk to people how you write on here, I'd expect you'll be waiting for it still in a couple of months time. Unless your shouting at people that your after advice from, I'd leave caps lock off.

I am not in but was a Flt Cdr.

Think of it like dealing with the tax man. Unless you set a cut-off date, they are going to be happy to triage your small issue out of the park. If you set a cut-off time, it is their failure and it screams "escalation" which means they have to explain it.

See the Flt Cdr. He will say he will try again. You then ask by when should I return and see you about it? He will say 1-2 weeks. etc...you get the picture. No audit trail no result.

Want some sour to go with your grapes.

This is the method I had mentioned previous and what we are told today. Have a come back email trail that way you have proof of all conversation. You have evidence and time if they quote you dates it will be sorted. If its not done you have ammo for the seniors to chase things up.

Anyway good luck , It just reinforces how much a shambles this air force is in and how nobody at TG17 YET again gives one care for anyones welfare. they cant even use the current closing of airbases as an excuse.

I'm TG17 and I gave the OP the answer pretty early on in the thread before it became a "My dad's bigger than your dad" competition.

He has already replied that it says he is still an A/Cpl, so a quick phone call or e-mail from admin (not his FS or WO) to ACOS manning can get him made substantive and generate an offer of further service in due course. FFS, I've made this call enough times over the past 3 years to know this works!

Some of you on here need to grasp that not everything in the whole wide world is TG17's fault, and that whilst there is the odd "jobsworth" in our trade, I have also come across a number of "jobsworths" when I have visited Supply, Catering Flt, MT, Photo Section, GEF, Gym, Movements etc etc.

The big question is - How close are you to the end of your current engagement. Those closest to the end are usually dealt with first as a matter of urgency.

Thanks to some of you, for your constructive responses. However some responses on here scare me a little, to say the very least. The future of our trade is not good especially going by some of the childish and negative responses I have had to my question.
