My SJAR has been deferred for 6 months because my Sgt doesn't know me well enough and she doesn't have a clue what i do for a job. I am the only person on my Sqn that does the job that i do and its mainly computer based. Appart from her telling me "to get off the computer and go do some work" She has told the other NCOs that although all my other assesments are top notch i won't be getting the same from her.

All that aside some days i'm quiet and other days i am max chat and don't get home till gone 7 or 8 and i am an Sac(T) doing a Sgts job. My SNCO has been with us for nearly 8 months.

What i want to find out is Do i have the grounds for a service complaint? My colleagues and I are a bit peeved at the fact we are not getting our assesments and the rest of the Sqn have had theirs. Does this also mean we will miss this years promotion board?.

Just to get a time frame, when were you last reported on? March this year?

Yeah, it will start in september and i don't know when it will be finished. does this mean we will have missed the board? we asked our warrant officer and he just said "sh*t happens, I'm not really interested in you lot"

If your sjar is being written in September reporting from march 10 till sept 11 you won't have missed a board as the last board sat in dec 10 which your 09-10 sjar was presented to. The next board will sit circa dec 11....

Why do they have to be in march 11 then?

Because SAC List one trades get reported on March to March. Your 6 month deferal means yours is getting done in Sept.

SAC W Tech boards sit historically Dec/Jan, 9 months ish after the report is due in....

Hopefully this clears it up, but really if you want to be promoted you should be all over this....

not really interested in promotion as i'm out in 5 months, just want my appraisal before i go. A few jobs i have applied for want my last 3 forces appraisals and i've had to put off a few well paid jobs as its not been done, hence the looking for a right to lodge a complaint against my SNCO

Explain the lack of this years appraisal to any future employer asking for it. Sounds like it wouldn't do you any favours anyway.

Your SJAR dates will remain Mar 10 to Mar 11 and will become an Annual Delayed instead of Annual. Annual SJARs have to be at Manning approx 8 weeks after the reporting/deferred date, in this case Nov 11. If the deferral is approved via the Chf Clk and not just on the say-so of the 1RO, you shouldn't be penalised on the board unless they SJAR is never recevied. Even if it is late, you can be retrospectively considered depending on your pre-board score.

Firstly, 8 months is more than enough time for her to do your SJAR. It sounds like its not just you, its also some of your collegues, is it? Your job description is on your SJAR, if you have changed jobs, YOU need to make sure its changed, she can then look at what you are meant to do as opposed to what you are doing. Why are YOU doing a Sgts job? She can't discuss that type of thing with other NCO's, straight away you have grounds for a service complaint, if its true. If your WO said what he said, then you also have a case, go to the boss. If this is just you having a drip because you are out in 5 months having never been promoted then seriously, grow a set!

I'm not having a drip because i'm out soon. Its a genuine reason. I have been high on the board for the last few years and i'm not at all bitter about not getting picked up as its not really for me, i came into the air force knowing i'd stay for 9 years and stuck to my career plan of what i wanted to do. All the jobs i hav done are nt the jobs that woud get me promoted and i knew that. I joined the RAF by accident as there was nothing else to do after leaving the army. I have been looking to leave for about a year and the jobs i have applied for want my last three assesments, and they know tis one should have been completed so i have been turning down jobs because of it, thats my reason for the question as this is putting my job hunting on hold

The reason im doing the job i'm doing is because my Sqn aren't interested in my equipment and the job was a regt sgts job and as i was the only one qualified i got landed with it.

you have been turning down jobs .... why ? doesn't make sense to me.

If you only have 5 months to push, I wouldn't be putting my job hunting on hold. If these employers are seriously interested in you they would understand if you explained about the SJAR issue. I know I did the other day as I sat on a panel to appoint a FTRS NCO who didn't have a completed report for this year.

ive had to turn down the 2 jobs i have been offered as tey need this years appraisal without it they won't entertain me, when they phoned me up the said i had to bring certain documents and these appraisals were on the list, when i said i didn't have this years they just said that's a shame because its mandatory that they have it and i can go no further without it. The reason i want to complain is because it is holding me up

Just smack the complaint in then...you're leaving, what have you fot to loose?

Typical EOD primo. Lots of gum beating but fcuk all use...:PDT_Xtremez_14:

i just wanted to know wether i can complain or if i'd just get told to f**k off i just need to look into it a bit further. I've already started the letter

As I understand with a service complaint you have to state your greivance and how you would want it resolving. If I understand you right, resolution for you would be a completed SJAR asap. But any complaint would do 'the rounds' on station first which would all take time even before it was considered to go off station, all this time you are getting closer to your exit date still with no SJAR. So in the meantime, you could go and speak to your chf clerk who would a) be able to tell you if the delay was unjustified and then kick some ass in getting it done asap and take away any flack from your WO or b)tell you the delay has been agreed by PSF for particular reasons etc and tell you your complaint was probably groundless.

Also, have you explained to the SNCO the problem you have and why you need an SJAR quickly? By doing that if she understand exactly why you need it then she maybe able to get yours done and word the SJAR accordingly; lets face it if this is to be your last SJAR you want it to be as good as possible but also with emphasis on transferrable skills rather than just why you 'help run the t-bar' etc etc. Again, if the service complaint is the first thing she knows about your problem and you need this SJAR from her to get a job, whilst you dont want to be 'brown nosing' her at the same time you dont want to be pi**ing her off totally and getting such a cr*p or bland SJAR that may undermine a job application anyway and you spend the rest of the time going to-and-fro argunig why it is an unjust report.

I am not saying dont put in a comlaint because that is your right, but to fire off without checking all your facts and having not done everything possible to resolve it first will just waste your precious time and maybe even make you look a bit silly! Speak to the SNCO, speak to the Chf Clerk, speak to your boss and if you still dont get any joy then fill in the form but dont expect it to be resolved within 5 mths.

Hope you get this sorted and dont leave the RAF totally pis*ed off with life in a blue suit.
Harry
