Having not been on the goat for some time, i have just read through some of the more recent threads. I found it strange that there was a reoccurring theme in most of these threads, TSW. The best is the posting's thread, how it goes from a posting to para wings on jumpers is great!

I think it is time for a line to be drawn in the sand.

Those for TSW please state your case why and also if you have served.

Those against please also explain why and if you have also served.

I am all for TSW because we are an elite fighting force for peace and goodwill all around the world. And yes i have served for almost 10yrs out of 20.

TSW = Great job with loads of Dets and no techies.

MOB Stores = Counting out bolts for ungratefull techies.

Days to do = 2

Surely the whole point of our job is providing a service to the customer, whether they are techies, cooks or clerks.

S4E, haven't you ever noticed though that the reason we always end up talking TSW is because someone who has never been posted there slates the place and the suppliers who love to serve there point out that it isn't quite the sh1tehole that some make it out to be.

At the end of the day we're all suppliers and we should all remember we are here to provide a service to the customer (which it pains me to say it and agree with too many staines). TSW might be for some and might not be for others that's just life and not everyone can always be happy. I have seen both sides of the fence and TBH I have had great times doing both jobs. TSW isn't the job for me now as I have a family however if I was a singly still I'd be back there already.

Nope. The main point of our job is stock control and management (awaits to be rightly corrected)

GRRRRRnawwwmn (pulls JSP out of arse) :PDT_Xtremez_14:

And I'm sorry if you have had a bad experience with techies. Personally I have a bloody great bunch who make my job an absolute pleisure ! Will help you out no end, if you do your best for them. But surely that's the case in all walks of life ?

You're totally right. This topic has come up in conversation before mind. I think the main point that came out of it was the 2 ****s attitudes that tends to follow the minority, when they get back in the blue. Attitudes like that give any place a bad rep !

Attitudes like this do not do a bad job either.......It's just a job, it's not a bad job, but it's just a job.

Not one point in my post did I say that wasn't the case. Isn't that the description for all our armed forces though ?

I haven't had a bad experience with techies. I would never judge a trade by an egg. There are just as many of said eggs in TG18 as there are in any other TG.

My god are some people that stupid that they cannot see when something is said tongue in cheek.

Anyway we are going off track. I just wanted to know comments for and against and if you have served, not a run down on what a TG18 person SHOULD be doing!

In my humble opinion TSW should be staffed by a new sub group within TG18, and that they stay there for as long as they want. That would prevent unhappy ex wing members being foisted upon us in main stream supply. I say this because the majority of those who I've met think themselves too good to be counting nuts and bolts and can't wait to get back to Stafford. So why move them? Everyone wins.

An honest enough answer there. I think it would be a good idea as a sub trade but the numbers are not enough to faciltate promotion etc so dont think that would ever get taken up. I myself found that i just enjoyed doing wing work more than i did MOB "supply" work. Just as some prefer SCAF to Tech, ESG to POL etc. Dont think i am too good for that type of work or i am somehow superior to those outside TSW just enjoy the work and the camadere that comes from this type of job.

In the same vain as those posted to a MOB from the wing who do moan about not being at Stafford (Guilty), i have seen more than a few people posted to Stafford who moan even more. These people seem to think they are too good to do wing work. Who is right and who is wrong

Well I did almost 5 years on The Wing (*thumps fist to chest*) and yes I have to say overall I did really enjoy it, and got some experiences out of it.

I suppose one of the things about having been at Stafford, is that when you get to your new unit, you get a lot of young LAC's asking you about it, and a lot can't wait to get an application in.

I've said to everyone, I'll happily tell anyone what to expect at Stafford, but I'd never persuade or dissuade people from it. For me it was a good job, lots of opportunity to work with different people and different armed forces.

So why did I leave? You get so far in, and it can get a bit boring, you stop learning new things, and im happy to not spend another week at Swynnerton in the poxy UN building doing training that really needed updating to the tasks we do/did.

Now im in main supply (sqn stores), I use this time to chill out, I've got about 20 months to do, and I'll be off to pastures green in Civvy Street. Hopefully the economy will have turned around a bit by then.

However when I hear a helicopter, my first reaction is to look around for the 150 pump ;)

Your very right there. I work with a lad who hated TSW when I was there. He missed the safety of his little office and the continuity of working 8 - 5 that SCAF bought to his life. He blames TSW for not getting promoted as he didn't like it there = his assessments suffered and hasn't been picked up. He did eventually leave there back to his little office. Not sure how he'd of felt had he of ended up in F&L or PEPs though!

Personally as I have said before I loved TSW but I love my job now. I volunteered for the wing just as I applied for a posting away after I had had a great tour there. As you said TSW is great fun and the camaraderie that comes from this type of job is one of the main reasons I loved it so much.

Forgot to mention to all those who may know a certain Sqn Ldr who's name rymes with nails, he has got his wing co. Cant wait for his arrival as OC TSW!!

Gen??? Jeeeesus he's doing ok for himself, he was a flt lt when I knew him there. I actually thought he was back there just now anyway??

When I did my 3 years in recruiting, TSW was always mentioned by potential stackers as something they wanted to do immediately. It also proved a good recruiting tool for the trade.
Personally, I think a TSW tour should be fixed at 3 years, like an overseas tour. That way people would not get too typecast as wing-mongs and also get an overall trade knowledge.

Oreo's are the king of all biscuits.
