TCW Bunch of Cowboys??

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
.....i did two tours on 'The Wing' - 1st one in '86, and the 2nd in 95. Brilliant guys, fantastic times, very fond memories!

We had the same prob then about being 'SF' - we weren't! The amount of 'newbies' who had been led to believe that we were part of SF was quite high, many times i had to correct them in that we were only a Specialist Force, specialising in what we do, and that we were the only ones in the RAF who did what we did. It was also pointed out that 591 SU were also a Specialist Force, specialising in what they do!!
Also had to point out that 21 Sigs Regt & 30 Sigs Regt were also specialist units, again, specialising in what they do.

Working as we did, we did work with SF such as 264 SAS Sigs, SBS Sigs, etc, so this may well be one of those arguments whos' origin is lost in the 'mists of time'.

No doubt this argument will continue for years to come - nothing changes, only the size of the circle getting bigger as we keep running around it!!

I did two tours on the wing 81 and 84, apart from the Regiment not many units wore Camo regularly then as I recall . It was something different to be on the Wing and certainly not SF though there will always be some wannabee's.
Cowboy unit..not at all in my opinion though I must admit not to being current on the Wing as it is today.

A conversation I remember having in 87 with a couple of noobs too.
Although I draw the line at "only" a specialist force. I'd always advise to be proud of our specialisation, in that we were unique at out signalling the signals and even owned our own RSigs Squadron.

I worked (and drank and fought Rock Apes) with 264 long before I got to TCW so that's a weak argument aswell.

and everybody knows, the only cowboys on TCW in the day were on AAORF and STF :PDT_Xtremez_14:
