My troops send out the paperwork for these, in doing so we include "examples" e.g. by rank and suggested content. The write up winds its way through (allegedly) flt and sqn cdrs to PSF. It is checked by a JNCO, SNCO then comes to me. Apparently, regardless of whatever qualifications I hold, or not, it is my job to check the content, spelling, grammar and syntax of same flt and sqn cdrs and accept or reject it accordingly. In recent weeks I have rejected 95% for reasons too numerous to bore you with here but you can guarantee they occupy an inordinate amount of my time. However, whinge aside, I suggest the solution is to provide nothing more than a letter on headed paper saying Name, rank, no,joined, left, and was employed as. Why? cos people will never be satisfied: they didn't like the F856 (old blue book) nor the Val Letter, and now the current format seems no better. You could then take the afore-mentioned letter and put it proudly in the front of you NEW blue book (PDR) alongside your ACRs, and course certificates! How's that for a GEM, can I have cash please?

Have they changed the procedure back again to what it was previously? I thought the JPAC were supposed to do this - direct from the LM to the JPAC, copy to PSF (or whatever the moniker is today)? Part of the "leaning" of tasks for TG17 as part of the introduction of JPA? If nothing else, you now know that I didn't spend a great deal of my time doing nothing - since this took up an inordinate amount of effort. I have to confess to a small sense of amusement that he who used to do, never even received his own... Not that I actually need or want it, I have the draft. The whole process is a joke, anyone who waits for someone else to produce a meaningless piece of paper written in mil-speak which is entirely useless to a civilian employer, is wasting valuable time and effort. They would be far better off concentrating on producing their own CV and getting a reference direct from their LM.

BB I would start by saying ..."You would not believe it..." but I know you would. In regard to the above it's all change even in the short time since your departure. I was not aware you had not even received yours, if you like I'll write since (apparently) it is my job to re-write everone elses!! As an aside, I have to agree with you - absolutely worthless to a future employer!
