Cheers for that Dingbat, that's quite useful to know. I saw you mentioned cossors in one post, i can tell you that i've just finnished a two day 'course', there was no official exam, it was an introduction really but we can come back on the 4001 course (i think it is) to become properly q'd.

I'll hopefully jump on the net this weekend, when I get more time - i only came on now breifly while I'm completing part of my BTEC :PDT_Xtremez_35:.

cheers,
John

JD, if you want Portreath, stick it on your dreamsheet. I have only heard good things about it in terms of postings. You will still be pinged for an OOA during your time there so you won't miss out as far as that goes. Get stuck in with your job, NVQ and some secondary duties.

The only downside I can see is the fact that it is a non flying unit. You wont really see `the bigger picture`, but if that doesn't bother you then go for it.

I'm up at Cosford soon, so if you want to ask me anything, pm me your details. I won't bite your head off like half the people on here... ;)

I wouldn't expect civvi experience to help a great deal in this job either, most people can't see past your rank slide regardless of what you are telling them. I have had a sh!t day so apologies if I sound negative. I heard civvi street is picking up again, I might have a look at some job sites to cheer myself up

I'm coming to the end of the 4001 course at the moment so you've most likely seen us grumpy lot living it up in the bottom floor tea bar :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I've only recently finished phase 2 at Cosford and I can totally empathise with you reference the lack of information given about postings. We had next to no idea and - apart from some under the table advice from the odd instructor - it seemed like we were purposefully being kept in the dark. All I can say is you're doing the right thing in asking around, try not to let the negative comments get you down but do take them all on board, everyone has their own story to tell.

I thought about putting Portreath down on my dreamsheet as it looked like a great place to be and I fancied working on the 101, however I assumed it would be a wasted choice due to the fact that it's such a small unit. I ended up getting Portreath after putting down "South" down, can't get any more South than that eh

Portreath personnel used to live in houses near the unit and received FIA - an extra £300 or so each month to cover the lack of a mess or other facilities you'd find on other larger units. Around 9 months ago that changed and we're are now accommodated 25 miles away at St Mawgan, taking a 40 minute MT bus ride in and out.

If you're like me your ideals will change quite a lot throughout the 4000 course and with that your choices will change, try not to worry about it too much for now!
