HoHo.............................It was fun but now you're just boring.

Don't say anything unless it's something of relevance

Not biting so knob off ::P:

Then why react ?

you need to add more skill sets...

Not wishing to get between the swishing handbags, but has the Flt Ops branch actually addressed the issue of training people to read ATO & ACOs properly yet?

It still never ceases to amaze me that for a branch/TG that do "Flt Ops", I haven't met any of you that have had formal training in the above. We can't keep relying on OTJ and word of mouth - isn't it about time the bunch that design the course include this vital skill?

Or do they expect you to keep cuffing it?

Good point Luke. ATO/ACO/SPINS/CSAR etc need to be covered in some detail I reckon, as it is the bread and butter for most Dets now, and not just for FOM's but for Cpl's as well. We still need some sort of formal trade management training though. Isn't there a course on FOTS that Seniors from the other two services do that covers some/all of this, InsideInfo man?

Missed you all by the way.........

I MAKE A SOLEMN PROMISE TO NEVER BASH ANOTHER OPS O AGAIN.......X

ATO/SPINS etc are taught on both TMT 1 and 2. Was brought into the TMT1 about 6 mths ago after realising that there was a gap in training. It was identified and hey presto next course it was in the programme!!!

Good to have to you back Fenella, we've missed you. Mind you I must say you have 1 amazing suntan are you sure you was OOA?

As far as i am aware they have not run a 'short' FOTS course for sometime. Does anyone know anything different?

As for the ATO and SPINS lesson my guys reported to me it was so far out of date is involved Spitfires. Lot more to OOA then ATO and SINS too!!!!

There was a FOTS short course last September and there's one in May. I am also led to beleive that there are further courses later this year and early next year.

Short course or TMT2 which one? What is important is that the subject matter is relavent and that wont happen without constructive ideas and comments from us all.

Lots more to OOA than SPINS and ATO'S? You are right there, FF my man, however, we've not got that long on a TMT or pre deployment course have we? depends on your previous experience, I guess as to what you need to learn and what you don't.

These are the things, in my very humble opinion, that a lot of the less experienced persons who arrive on det need to see. These things, in particular the SPINS, are so very important and need to be interpreted and then actioned accordingly.

Clearly you have done lots and lots of OOA and are the man in 'the know'-what other things do you think should be looked at, FF?

I didn't know the Spitfire was M4 capable? when did that happen?

I created a presentation, (and handouts) on 'Operational Flying' and sent it to OC FOTS around 18 months ago. The lesson was actually a part of the ITOC/2 Gp induction course but after hearing back from my troops I thought I would share it.
If anyone wants a copy PM me and I will point you in the right directions as I have retired to the sun now.

I will not claim to know everthing, or that my lesson was perfect, but it had a lot of good info in it. I even manged to teach aircrew a thing or two and they know EVERYTHING:PDT_Xtremez_31:
