Well I can honestly say that G40 was not the bestest most fun hotel I've ever stayed in, but the rates were quite good and the food was great, well better than Bessbrook anyway.

I'll shed a tear knowing that I'll never go back and feel very sorry for the unlucky ones who'll never experience it for themselves.

Totally agree Dantura. Only ever spent 3 weeks of my life up there but it was always a better grin than BBK. Sure am glad now a few years have passed that I took a camera with me one time.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

The LOPOE

The LOPOE

Does anyone remeber the LOPOE (The Locker Of Previously Owned Equipment) kept in a secret location at Trg Mong HQ

Ah, I remember that locker. It belonged to one of these chaps if memory serves me right.

dg-april-07-006.jpg

The owner (the fearless leader of the training team at one point) had to leave for pastures new one day and from the locker came forth a multitude of wondrous goods. Some that were known to people but believed lost forever and some that were new to everyone but apparently had been sent to TSW for 'trialling'.

On a sort of related note, tomorrow I'm off to the workplace of another person who happens to be in that photo for an inter-site work visit. I do hope he puts the kettle on.

The wonderful thing about tiggers they go bouncy, bouncy, bounce. Pass on my regards and I will get around to joining if he promises to shut up for a change.

Was never a wing man myself but does that gent on the left have the initials DP? He looks remarkably like one of the shift Cpls from when I was on the VOG crew in Trans.

I would pass on your regards to the ever-so-happy-all-the-time one if I knew which ex-TSW Gillo you are.

Are you,

- The ex-MT one with very few teeth who seemed to enjoy telling a few wing officers that they were all the *******s under the sun at his leaving do?:PDT_Xtremez_31:

- The one who had a wife who worked in the admin office of my last RAF unit and is a throughly nice chap even though he supports some Cornish football team?:PDT_Xtremez_31:

- Or another Gillo altogether?:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Having come off the Harriets at Gutersloh I was attached to the wing in '91 at Al Jubayl, Hafir Al-Batyn, then into Iraq and Kuwait for a spot of adventure.
Can anyone answer this question. The previously photographed WO, who was a Sgt then, rumours are that he accidentally fired the wing's captured 4-barrelled Iragi gun. True or false?

Yes he does indeed have the initials DP.

Thanks, .. geez, he's kept well considering the heavy nights in the Bear, Legion, RAFA Club, Four Crosses, Rifle Volunteer, Ganges and a few other watering holes.... wonder if he still supports Stoke City (well, somebody has to)??!!

The same AAA gun that sits outside the Wing HQ now?

That 'dit' is one of the Wing's enduring urban myths. I have asked the said WO on a few occasions and there is always slight smirk before he tells you to 'f**k off boy'. You decide?

However, myself & another long time wing mong JNCO were tasked with getting paintshops to make some info plaques for all the captured stuff outside the front of the HQ.
He did not appreciate the plaque that read,

'ZPU-4 14.5mm Anti-Aircraft Gun System. Captured during Op Granby & negliglently discharged by Sgt Mc**y, TSW in 1991.'

I thought it was feckin' great! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

I got tasked with towing that fecking gun up to the mess for the 35th do. The thing is rusted to feck so we only had about 1 inch of ground clearance hence is you look carefully you can see a nice trench in the road from HQ building all the way up to the mess!

Ive also asked him about firing it off and his answer to me is the same as what he said to Norman "feck off boy".

How very dare you!!!! No I,m not a bloody slammer.

I,m a throughly nice chap who supports a Southern football team who are dangerously near drop in Championship. I,m back to do my third tour at Stafford: ex Duty Crew in 70s, Wing Mong late 90s.

Any help.

Alright Son, Boy etc, etc. Its true. I even new the chap in question when he had hair.
Mind you not as bad as the sick tw@ts who cut the ears of dead Iraqies after road to Basra ambush. Another Urban myth.

Do you know, I haven't a clue who you are Gillo.

Cryptic clues were never my strong point.

Oh, and I didn't see the 'boing boing' one today. He was on a late shift and I had left before he started but those staff I did speak to said without prompting that he should have been certified years ago for being just a little bit too happy all the time.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

He's an old tw@t with alzheimers who supports a future League 1 side that wear red & white stripes and who don't like Pompey very much!

He's actually a very nice chap who could be your future Wobbly!!
