Nice to see the 'Old British Bulldog Spirit' is still alive in some!

He must be 'Old School' would the youngster's of today dare risk it? Now that's a question!

The reason I posted the video of the B52 crash, which I know was the work of a maverick Col Arthur Holland and am fully aware of his history including a reckless low pass over a ridge, was to suggest that there is maybe a proper debate to be had outside of 'good on him, glad to see folks still have the stones to do this sort of thing' etc.

Aviation history is littered with tragic incidents born from that derring-do, sod the rules, spirit. Douglas Bader purportedly is said to have re-quoted the famous "rules are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools' line and so sets a pretty good example of what can happen when aviators decide to push the limits. So I think its important to ask questions like 'did the captain have the consent of others on board to perform the maneouvre?' The answer is probably yes, or kind of yes, but its still worth asking whether its OK to dance with the limits of what is and is not authorised when you have others depending on your actions.

And if that makes me a kill joy then, well OK.

And that's the point if you do push the limits thesedays you are automatically castigated with what if saga etc. The poor guy will probable lose his licence and be taken to court for recklessness.

Living within the rules will eventually produce a robotic society!

This story first broke in that widely read and knowledgeable publication called the Grantham Journal, some three weeks after the alleged event. The spotter claims he was standing near to the Gorse Lane water tower which, for those of you who know the area, is that big white tower next to the A1 just south of the town. That means, if you watch the "video", the alleged event would have taken place over the centre of the town. Do you really believe that no-one else noticed it? IMHO, if it had happened as alleged, then Faceache, Tw@tter and every spotters forum would have gone into over-drive with excitement.

As it happens, another person wrote in to the same paper and said he didn't see it do anything out of the ordinary that day as it passed to the east of the town. Mrs 4ma also seen the Vulcan from the back garden and she said she didn't see anything unusual - despite being a woman, she knows what a Vulcan looks like having been stationed at Scampton during its final years as a Vulcan station.
