Wear contacts, want laser treatment during service

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I 'forgot' to tell the med centre about my surgery. Still haven't 2 years down the line. They haven't even noticed me reading the entire eye chart without the aid of specs

Have had the laser surgery recently. Make sure you have it done when you know you are not going OOA anytime soon.

Used ultralase, had the best type of surgery possible (lasik wavefront, ultralase ultraelite) mentioned I was in the military for a 25% discount and then mentioned I was referred by another ultralase patient and received a further 10% off. Surgery took less than 45 mins for both eyes. Some soreness for the first night (but was given various drops for this). Next day vision was better than 20/20 and improved to and even higher standard thereafter. I have had no settling problems, dry eyes or other issues.

I did tell my smo after the surgery, he just informed that he wasn't that fussed and it was my choice to formally raise it with him!

Best decision I have ever made, worth every penny

Well the RAF have access to your medical reports when you go for a trade, remuster, or get promotion. or a new offer of service, so i think it would be a bit silly to cover it up. i think honesty is the best policy.

For those who keep PM me about glasses and the respirator - you do not wear glasses at all, or put them on during your decontamination drills! you keep them off, or get lenses for your mask.

Well I have been promoted since having it done, had another OOA and passed two eye checks with the docs and they still haven't said anything. If I had to do the same thing again I still wouldn't mention it to the med centre. I would just apply common sense as to when to get it done...

I tried wearing contact lenses earlier this year in the CS chamber, but the dose of CS was low compared to at Halton. I didn't feel as much of the effects as I thought in my eyes, but they still burned, I do not recommend wearing contact lenses whatsoever in the chamber, even if it makes you focus harder.

Still, at least you know in the event of a real NBC/CBRN incident you won't have to worry about "seeing" the aftermath :PDT_Xtremez_19:
