If you are acting rank do you wear this on No1. SD uniform? I ask as I have an award reception 26/04/11. I asume you would as your being paid for it but im unsure! :PDT_Xtremez_34:

If you have been given acting rank then you should wear it on all of your uniform. I was acting F/S just before an AOC's and clothing stores stuck a bloody big hole in my No1 with an F/S Crown even though I was only acting for a few months.

Thats what I thought and looking on google at dress regs it just says your rank should here and there and nothing about acting. Thanks for your help Norfolkred1.

If anyone knows different please let me know

Even when acting you still hold the Rank. Which is why I get a little wound up at certain Units where it's the norm to put A/ in front of the Ranks of those acting up on minutes and the like. If they're making the same decisions as a substantive then why differentiate needlessly? If they aren't why give them the acting?

Been in the same boat, You wear your acting rank on your number ones. Just one other point, before you get your presentation, ensure if they are to read out a commendation make sure they use your current rank, unlike what happened to me when my rank went up and down like a yo-yo during the reading of the commendation.

As far as I'm aware, Acting in front of the rank should only apper in one public document...SRO's, when it is given or removed.

Also seen a guy get a rocket for not doing it, An A/Cpl known as Flash who was a bit of a bad boy on his return to a long closed radar station the other side of the Irish Sea after doing GST and TMT 1, ended up in front of the CO in number ones with only J/T props on (The clip on tie didn't go down too well with the SWO either).

Off Topic Yes, but it was fecking entertaining hearing about the SWO giving him the 'about turn' and him being marched straight back in to get charged for being incorrectly dressed.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

thanks for your help guys.... as i said I thought so as they are paying me and is my rank at current

Really??? Your going to go to the big bad effort of changing your No 1's to show that your acting up for a while?? Surely that's just a bit sad?

Got to agree here, I can't decide what's worse - going to the effort of changing them - or having to change them back afterwards. Oh the shame in the tea bar......:PDT_Xtremez_42:

It all depends on the circumstances, if he has to wear his No1's during his acting rank period it will have to be changed, seen people caught out before, FFS who is paying for the upgrade and downgrade of the uniform anyway

Surely the sensible option would be an armband with the acting rank on it?

I've just got acting rank and am unsure how long I will have it for so in order to attend mess functions and the like, I got my acting rank put on it. Why not, I'm not entitled to the Mess Dress grant and rightly so.

I dont think its sad to get it changed, especially as the OP is actually required to wear his No 1's which would mean he would be incorrectly dressed.

Does make it slightly more interesting when talking about mess dress...

I have no issue with persons acting up having there No1 dress tailored and possibly ruined by the temporary addition of the Prop or crown. And if you get acting from Cpl you are entitled the grant to cover the cost of the mess kit. But imagine you are acting up from Sgt to Chf Tech and you have your Mess kit screwed up by the addition and subsequent removal of the Chf Tech prop. Doesn't seem right - lots of money

Nah sorry lads I just dont get it. The reson your acting up is because it's required to hold that rank for the job not a parade. The OP is (AFAIK) going to be A/Cpl and he's probably only doing a parade or such like. What difference does it make if his uniform say SAC or Cpl for that? I was acting up for 16 months before November last year and I certainly never considered getting my No 1's altered in that time....

Agreed bird.....but I don't see why the OP couldn't do it if they WANT to? Feck it, if someone is proud enough that they're happy to wear the acting rank on their No.1s, good for them. I don't think it's sad at all.

I've held acting rank a couple of times, on Ops only admittedly, but I was damn proud to be wearing the rank for whatever it was worth.

Last year my WO was OOA for 6 months. One of the FSs was given Acting WO for the duration, and was therefore fitted and issued a new set of WO No1s.

He was posted about 3 months into the 6, so another FS was given the acting rank, fitted and issued with new No1s for the remaining 6 months.

Probably cost a few quid, but thems the rules - whatever rank you are, be it acting or not - should be displayed on your uniform.

As an aside, as you aren't a substantive rank until you have passed whatever promotion courses there are for your particular rank and trade, should you only get your No1s tailored after completion of those courses, even if it's say 2 years from being given acting rank to being given the substantive rank??

Ask Joe SWO, he will know.
