Where to Camp?

Right curteousy of Mad Collie and quite a few people off Ebay I'm in the camping game...

Now all I need is somewhere to go now...A great many campsites seem to big themselves up online so I'm after practical reccomendations...either you've stayed there or someone you trust has and told you all about it...

I want to somewhere with nice ablutions, that will take a largish tent, have power hook-up and a shop nearby as the basics...

Icing on the cake would be something outside of annoying me for my two boys (3 and 7) to do...something like a pool would be ideal but am open to ideas...pub nearby nice but not essential...I'm in Lincs and for run of the mill weekend camping don't want to drive to the other end of the country but for half terms etc will go greater distances...I like Cornwall for instance and the nearer the sea the better...

Any gen much appreciated.

Why do you want to put your tent up in the bogs?

Bridport

Bridport

West Bay Holiday Park in Dorset – Parkdean Holidays UK
Awesome site with Clubhouse, bar, pool and 10 mins walk to the beach (everyone cateed for)

Robin Hoods Bay

Robin Hoods Bay

A variety of camp sites here, Whitby and Scar'boro relatively close. Good pubs in the village and you won't notice the hill (dependant on which campsite you choose) after you've been up and down it a few times...:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Personally, we stayed at Hooks House Farm. Well worth it for the view alone.

Very big beach at low tide and very small beach at high tide.

Should only be a couple of hours max from Lincoln.

Kelling Heath

Kelling Heath

It's near Holt, so not too far to travel, but it's well away from roads and has a nice atmosphere.

I'm bored of the highlife...Over 2 decades of top hotels and circling the globe has lead me to want to rough it in a field covered in sh1t whilst listening to the rain on the flysheet!
Anyone that WANTS to live under canvas is a pikey and no mistake!
Fortunately my site is caravans only so I won't have to put up with a pikey Fuego begging for beer or crying to use my toilet. I do have electric hook up though :PDT_Xtremez_14:,

mmm I've just been talking to some lads from a Lincolnshire based mess. And they're saying "Why's he asking? That mincer's been camping it up round this mess for years."

Middlewood Farm Robin Hood's Bay.

Fantastic site. On the hill above the bay it's a 15 min walk with kids through a David Bellamy Nature Trail that brings you out at the sea. Graet for fossils and rockpools etc. The site itself is a working dairy farm but the ablutions block is spotless - showers, sinks, hair dryers etc (there's another one next to the farm house itself). They have a burger van (open 3 times a day) by the entrance and can provide electric hook ups. Back down the road there is a nice ford, a pub, shop that sells all you'll need and a pizza place. The best thing about the site is that you can catch the bus into Whitby, spend the day pottering about before walking back over the cliff tops (about 6 or 7 miles) back to the site - even with kids it's do-able so long as they're not in a buggy (Have some tinnies/wine in a cool box ready - you'll need one after).

We went here back in June and it was bloody brilliant...Right on the lake shore, pitch where you want, kids went ferrel for the weekend only returning to the tent for food and a rub down with a damp cloth...Coniston village 15 mins walk down a path where the pubs sell Hawkshead brewery ales such as Bluebird...weather was redders so it was the perfect camping weekend...

Off to Sleningford Mill campsite this weekend which is next to Ligh****er Valley park...another site not too heavy on the rules aslong as you go without hook ups...

This website I am using to show you these campsites is really good...you just input what you want out of a campsite it whittles them all down for you...very useful!

the perfect camping weekend...

Try "The Orchards" on the Isle of Wight mate, a quiet site near a few towns for beer and food, caters to Touring vans, tents or offers mobile homes for rent. Lovely pub a short car trip away called the Blacksmiths arms, recommended by a fellow Goater. Excellent food, friendly staff and a fantastic view of the Solent :PDT_Xtremez_14:

For one local to Lincoln try Jubilee park at Woodhall Spa...Nice outdoor heated pool and plenty of pubs nearby!

Camping - ((((shudder)))))

Sorry, spent too long on Harriers to fall for that malarkey again. When you've had to thaw out your toothpaste on Ex' Hard Frost at Sennelager in February........No thanks

The Fuego fun bus is nearly loaded up again for the next foray into the wilderness...and its the one I'm least looking forward to...Flamingo Land! Nothing makes me smile more than being surrounded by chavs paying £8 for a packet of chips whilst queueing 45 mins for a ride that lasts 34 seconds...I'm doing it for the kids apparently!

4th trip of the summer though so I'm chuffed with the usage we've had of the gear...probably be the last of this year unless we get a shock Indian summer.

Anyone else been getting any?

Just back from this place:

http://www.lowfellgate.co.uk/

Last minute job by my camping gang to utilise the nice weather that sprung up...The pictures on the website flatter it somewhat but it wasn't bad...only one shower for blokes but real men don't shower anyway.

About 15 mins walk into Grange which has a small range of 'cutesy' shops selling fudge/choc and a fine range of home baked pies...not as many pubs as most Lakeland towns I have to say and quite retirement orientated...outstanding view over Morecambe Bay from the tent and you could hear the siren go off for the incoming tide and watch it wash in at the speed of a galloping horse in a matter of minutes.

I would say it's handy to stay here if you're attending events at Holker Hall (3 miles away) like the balloon festival (photographers dream event) or something like the steam gathering at Flookbrough.

7 out of 10 overall...first camping exped of the year C/O Satis!

There's a very good site just a few yards away from Bournemouth Hurn airport; it's on Matchams Lane, Ringwood, and it has all the facilities (or it had when last I was there).

Castleton in Derbyshire. Most people seem to go there on school trips at some point of their lives. It's the place where blue john comes from, and plenty of caves, walks, castles to visit!

Oh and more pubs than locals! :PDT_Xtremez_14:
