Can anybody guess which RAF aircraft has seen service in every conflict since 1968 and is not represented in any UK museum?

Is it not about time for one to be displayed at Cosford/Hendon/Duxford?

Definitely don't remember a Herc at Cosford, mind you I don't remember seeing a Canberra either and that was only 5 months ago.
I'd go with the Herc though, reason being is I don't think they could afford to have a spare frame lying about not being used.

It is indeed Mr Lockheeds finest.

I had heard that part of the delivery agreement was that when the mighty K had finished flying they had to be scrapped. But at least two nations bought refurbished K Models from Marshalls and there were quite a few sent to the boneyard in Delaware as part of the buy back which offset the J models purchase.

Rumour control has it that all K's will be reduced to produce by 2012 with a couple going in 2008. Surely it is time this commonly referred to 'Workhorse of the RAF' is honoured for its role and preserved for future generations to appreciate.

And please please please do not let this thread descend into a KvJ slagging thread!

having been a passenger too many times to count on the old bus I agree, it took me all over europe and further and I can never recall being let down by one through serviceability though I can remember flying on them a few times and thinking "hm I wonder if that should be dripping"

If we did have a Herc in a museum, we'd be down there every few days robbing stuff of it

Hendon has one.

Cosford does have a Canberra.

The PR.9 used to sit outside along with the V-Bombers.
Although I've not been there since the new display opened up, so it might be in storage somewhere.

Your right on that one coming to think about it. Hendon one is a PR3 if memory serves, cannot remember if Duxford has one.

What about the mighty wokka ?

Hendon has a display based around the front half of one in the main hall (an ex US Army one I think, which was suppiled by Boeing) and is painted up as ZA718 'BN' in her Falklands war paint job.

But that's only HALF a helicopter !! and BN is still in service.

SLIGHTLY Off Topic

Not that they were in service while I`ve been in but they are a fave of mine.
Any one know where there`s a "wooden wonder" Mosi ...

Half a Heli is better than nowt! I think we can be reasonably assured that BN's iconic status will see her suitably preserved when she retires. Anybody who was of age in '82 will have some distant recollection of her role down south.

I have just spoken to somebody at Hendon and while they have no forecast or plan to obtain and preserve a Herc, they would very much like one and Cosford would possibly be where it would be located. The downside though is that at present there is no room to store it indoors at any location.

I am tempted to start one of those e-petitions to the PM, but they just do not seem to hold any weight. Thoughts anybody?
