Hahaha - well, it has to be said that they are VERY nice legs and extremely sexy boots, so it'd better be £££s (especially considering the recent FFR slump...)

:PDT_Xtremez_28:

That'll be the 'Electric Wrestle' for you on Wednesday night then, HS... :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Crickey

I pop into the local for a swift noggin on the way home, power up the steam generator and find you lot have fleeced me already! Great!

I will endeavor to reply to all the replies (if you see what I mean).

Thanks a lot you guys.

As the title of this thread is not "lets chat about how nice LQ's legs and FMB's are" the posts on that subject are not generating 50p's to the goat charity.

So get your money where your mouths are, donate those tenners to the goat charity, be good boys.

Show us a bit more leg & you're on LQ, especially Stig with his mega pay rise!

The replies contain some updates from the first couple of weeeks. Thanks to all of you for your posts;

Vagabond - Rock's forum will get my attention now that I have signed up!

Tarde121 - I was in too long ago to be of any threat to my lad but my old fella did 40 years AC to S/Ldr all in "heavies" and he certainly knew enough old salts to give me the odd scare or two!

Propersplitbrainme - comms aren't too bad at the mo as we get update most days from his mates - the good news is that the work rate in the first week or so is pretty intensive and he is enjoying the bed at 0200 up at 0500 routine - little change then!

SirSaltyHelmet (nice!) I recall phone cards arriving in the 80's, I think, but my recollection was 10ps as well. By way of an update and as a sign of the times, there are no phone boxes now as they werent being used as all the lads and lasses have their mobiles. Apparantly the instrctors have to work hard to keep some of the recruits focussed away from "texting". I like your thinking about getting the lad blocked from the site though. But is says you are a "thoroughly nice chap"

True Blue Jack - I mourne the passing of Morse - Semaphore was too showwy!

Sospan - an update for you, all Airman Aircrew (go through the same 9 weeks as everyone else and then get sent to Cranwell for their SNCO course). When they arrive at Cranwell they land as Acting Sergeants - it took me donkeys years to get the tapes - he'll do it in weeks - nice one!

Who me - the recruits club is available to recruits after 3 weeks or so and they have internet there so he should start to be able to sniff around the net

Vim Fuego - Vim I am old and now stupid and can't translate PM - your idea is v helpful thanks.

And finally for today - Humble Scribe - just knowing that you know and that he doesnt (so far) will make it all worthwhile for me if you happen to be in the company of any of the newbies!

Cheers guys - great fun!

Cheers guys - great fun!

A PM is a 'personal message' which can be sent by clicking on any of our user names and selecting 'personal message'...You'll have to play around a bit to get the hang of stuff I reckon!

Helloooo and welcome to the goat! What a great first post! Good luck to your lad and Im sure you will point him in the right direction if he has any problems! Enjoy the goat hope it brings you some laughs :PDT_Xtremez_30:

By way of an update for the weekend.

M'lad tells me that the food they have is FAB - lots and lots of Roasties and Pasta which of course is heaven for a growing teenager! He is told that they cram 10000 calories into their wee bodies each day - something to do with their work rate apparantly.

He tells me they are spendng a lot of their time getting use to their kit and ironing a lot - no change there then! He seems to be enjoying the bulling of his shoes as he seems to know what he is doing (nothing to do with his old man showing him the way when he was a young cadet then!).

The occasional chat with him does elicit a lot of excitement at what he is doing although it is clearly different to home life with lots of noise in the barrack room. Shut eye tends to be in the wee hours with reveille still at the ungodly hour of 0500 - shame.

One piece of advice for any newbies (or parent) is - when they say in the kit list "dont take too much stuff" they really do mean it. I tried and tried to get him not to take too much but I wasnt listened to and now he has surplus kit locked away in a locker room as his "bed space" is insufficient for all the surplus gear he has taken.

By the way I must say that I did enjoy his first day as Mum and I were given a tour of the Training facilities and a spot of grub for our trouble as well as the very real pleasure of seeing him (and his very very short hair) swear the Oath - very nice, very sweet.

Hopefully some more news in the next day or so as the excitement of some prospect of leave draws near.

I think I owe about £15 to the Goat so far and am naturally happy for this to increase!

See you and thanks for reading the ramblings of an old man!!

Welcome to the goat ! Congratulations on a great idea to give coverage of recruit training, whilst giving some money to 'charity mate'. This thread could prove be an interesting slant from a parents point of view.

On another note, do Airman Aircrew do recruit training at Halton now ? or is it just for initial issue prior to Cranwell ?

Yes mate, its basic at Halton then to Cranwell for NCAITC and loads of other stuff.

True...although I'm hearing rumours that it will move to Halton in the future...IOT have never liked it being at Cranwell...

Very pleasant first post. I'm somewhat perplexed that you say you were a rock!
Here you are using a computer, and most of your words are spelt correctly!
Hope your lad copes well. As a 'siggie' myself, I'm well aware of what's facing him. Also, my younger son went through Halton about 7 years ago. I paid him the odd visit with a 'slab' for him and his mates. The instructors seemed like a nice bunch. I look forward to your updates, and thanks for all your money!

Thanks Pingdit

A true ex rock would have someone to operate the computer for them and then use spell checker to get the worms in the right order!

I see that the thread has moved to the "charities" forum which seems tohave slowed it down somewhat - I wonder if there isnt a thread that is more to do with the updates and fun side of the thread - the charity being a byproduct - do you know who I'd ask?

For all those waiting on an update, I can tell you that m'boy had a bit of free time over the weekend and had to make a choice between watching the Paddy's just about get past the "Eyties", the Scots bounced by our friends over the Channel and the Taffs run rags round us, or bulling his parades, he chose the latter! Wise choice maybe!

It'll be intersting to see the change in him this weekend as he pops home for a couple of days. My guess the weekend will pass by in a blur of sleep interspersed with visits to local hostelries! By the way they get their travel facilities straight away if they want them so they can travel by warrant although I've told my lad that only 4 return warrants dont go very far in a year!

I guess they still get travel on top of that for postings.

Vim - I hadnt heard about moving NCA ITC to Halton but it would be an interesting choce given the status of the Halton field. Where would they get bussed to for their generic flying training and would it be worthwhile? Dont know the answer.

Thanks for keeping up the interest guys

You could send a private message to one of the mods and talk it over with them.

Just make sure he doesn't get time to log on this weekend. We don't want to burst the bubble just yet!

How many weeks into his training is he?

Greetings OldNick, welcome and thats quite a challenge you've set yourself :PDT_Xtremez_30:

A lot of threads on here slow down after a day or two but I'm sure everyone will certainly try to bump it sensibly on a regular basis. I agree about the food at Halton, its good (well I thought so) and I reckon if you'd tried this on facebook he'd have found it a couple of days ago so you're doing well so far.

Thanks Pingdit

My bet is that he'll be very smart and want to meet up with his old mates to impress them, and tell them how scruffy they all look, and also to tell them THEY couldn't handle it!

Oldnick good luck to both you (for the charity) and your son at RTS. Hopefully I should be back to work in time to see him leave.

Just noticed this...There is no flying on the ITC...I'm guessing the rumour only includes the first 11 weeks at Halton then back to Cranwell for the professional training...This would make sense actually as the studes do Halton first which IMO is a waste of time...just get them on the ITC as ab anitio's and tailor the course accordingly...

Yes...any update on this by the way?
