Hi good folks,
I`ve just under 2 years to do until my 40 point and will be banging out, altho signed on to 47.

Is there any benefit to giving notice now or am I setting myself up for a sh1t posting or something similar?

If they know I`m going, am I more likely to stay in post (Specialised engineering post)?

Any well informed advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

With only 2 years to go there is no harm in putting your notice in now. Apart from anything else it gives you a head start with resettlement.

Whether you are likely to be posted depends on many factors including your rank, trade, just how specialised your job is, etc. However, it would be a foolish drafter who posted someone without good reason. I'm too cynical to say it's impossible but it is highly unlikely.

Give your drafter a call and tell him what you plan; he will then tell you if he foresees you being able to see out your remaining career in your current job. In my experience, if it suits you to stay where you are then it will suit him too.

I left in May 07 and can tell you that with the people skills you will have learnt from within the RAF will stand you head and shoulders above your peers outside.

Another benefit of handing your notice in is they should not ping you for "one more" OOA, if your due one.

Having just put my notice in (early termination - JPA speak) with 20 months to go to the 22year point, i asked the question of HR flight with reference to the DWR question. Their answer was ACOS manning can still ping you up until the 12 months before your exit date point but it may be worth me ringing my desk to enquire.:PDT_Xtremez_06:

Right as if i'm going to my head above the parapit :PDT_Xtremez_42: (so to speak)

You put your notice in with only 20 months to do to your 22 year point!!!! Why the hell did you do that??

K9 Fornicator here, utilising Sausage 2's log in as he is such an amiable chap and neither of us can be 4r5ed to log out and log back in again.
In my extremely limited Service experience and utilising my psychic ability 'the notice' was probably submitted due to the fact he/she had aspired to SNCO status and had extended their contract accordingly.

May I be so bold as to suggest you do the same!

Ooa

If you put your notice in rather than PVR you may get a better resettlement package, not checked since system came in so might be worth checking.

I'm sure a drafter will correct me but you need to be travelling out before your 12 month point with regards OOA, with most DWRs giving a 12 month notice if you don't know now then hopefully you won't be going anywhere, however, if there is a DWR on it's way to your workflow then you've got to go (don't think it's wise to give your drafter the heads up personally)

Must admit I always thought that you coud only "Give Notice" after your 22 was up.......always had the thought if you give notic at 20 months (before 22years) the RAF would get you out in 12 (as per regs) and feck you over pension wise.

Don't affect me but hey ho i guess some have been done over.

When giving notice, or requesting PVR, you can ask for any exit date as long as it meets the appropriate waiting time, so asking to be discharged in 20 months' time is never a problem.

People who joined from shortly before me onwards joined on a 9 year notice engagement so have always had the right to give notice. Everybody has a general right to give notice after completing 16 years' service.

But there are some people who have been screwed over by miscalculating and asking for an exit date one day before their pension point. Most clerks I know would advise people if they thought they were doing themselves over but ultimately if you don't know your own "get out of jail free" date that's your lookout.

Cheers TBJ for the explanation.....always nice to know even though it will never be of use to me now !!! (Just got my first pension payment yesterday.....best feeling in the world !!)

Just a reminder that if your DWR notice comes in and then you put in for early termination, you will still have to do the OOA even if it means becoming a civvie as you walk off the plane at the end of your tour.

Rob I put mine in before christmas and gave them a date a couple of months past the pension point just to be on the safe side.

It was like a cloud had been taken away from over my head mate, i even gave a wee 'WHOOOOHOOO!' as I exited PSF!

Nice

I almost put my 18 months notice in when I decided to leave but the chief clerk questioned my motives. I though PVr'ing meant I would be out in whatever the minimum waiting time was which didn't suit me. He explained that I could PVR with any date after the minimum that I liked and that I could bring it forward whenever I liked as long as I still observed the minimum waiting time. Aparently if you put you notice in you can't bring it forward. In that case I PVR's.

If said person had signed on to los 30. Still makes no sense to bang out before their 22 year point in my experienced service life.

I concur, I put in a PVR with a date that suited me as thats what the chief clerk recommended. As and when I get a job offer I can leave sooner, nice.

Pvr ? Notice?

Pvr ? Notice?

I was under the impression (read it somewhere)
That if you PVR you are still likely to get pinged DWR. and have to wait to get confirmation and a date and then fight to get out earlier?
But if you put notice in, then they can't touch you. You have a fixed date and know you wont be messed around with OOA?
