Yet another job to do...

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Show me a trade that is as flexible and adaptable. I always worried about TG9 self-destructing but the reality is that it has some of the brightest and most capable individuals in the RAF. So what if you do COMCEN's job - it just proves that a TG9 cpl/SAC is worth so much. The pay thing was/is/will be irritating but I'm sure it will be sorted, eventually.

yeah, i started a thread about a year ago about the diversity of our trade, i was amazed at some of the stuff we do

I would have linked it, but i didnt have an IT bod to do it for me:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Moan, moan, bloody moan!

Been a while but here goes....

I currently find myself doing the following;

1 Issuing Immigration paperwork to prevent admin being called out out of hours

2 Issuing beer cards to transient crews (see note 1)

3 Completing engineering paperwork (because a holding officer said we could do it! A holding officer awaiting his FOTS course no less. You know who you are, veteran of Valley and St Athan!))

4 Informing ATLO of PAX numbers on aircraft (Movers tent is two tents away and more often than not they know more about PAX than we will)

5 Issue reflective belts and ensure that they are returned (Supply is next door!)

6 Get involved with MT in as much that they think I actually care where aircrew transport is! One engineer even said "Do I look like an MT SNCO?" Well you bloody well thought that we did you chump!

7 Item 6 was batted away successfully by the TG9 massive!

The point is this, we do extra stuff for two reasons; 1 We can do it and 2 We do it better than the so called SME's. The bad thing is, our lords and masters don't care enough to draw boundaries around our specialisation.

That is all, I feel so much better now!

PS With reference to another thread on this forum.... if you think that you are really worth more money, bugger off to the civil sector and try and earn it! If you are not prepared to do that shut up and enjoy the money you do get! Remember, no-one is storming trenches on the money we are on.....

So you're in the Deed then? A Prime example of what can happen when Ops is set up by non-trade specialists (OpsO's).

I was wondering how long it would take to get a nibble, how are you mate?
Unfortunately, things changed since day 1 and not always for the better nowadays. All it takes is an empire builder who doesn't really understand the role and suddenly, the people at the coal face are being given a multitude of tasks that others are actually employed for, but I suppose thats TG9 nowadays.

You'd be surprised mate. The odd one or two of the commissioned brethren seem to have be using it as such, just so they can have something written in their end of Det report, as actually having achieved something!!!. Hows sunnier climes anyhow..

You get idiots in every branch/trade and at every rank.

The problem with dets like the Deed is they sent first tourists who are too scared to say no when a senior officer types suggests new jobs/roles. It is no different to young LACs and SACs not saying no to crusty old Sgt and Flt Sgts.

3 Completing engineering paperwork (because a holding officer said we could do it! A holding officer awaiting his FOTS course no less. You know who you are, veteran of Valley and St Athan!))

Oh dear God, now I know why my job is so hard!
