Right then,

You and only you have been given the opportunity to change the way things are done in TG4? What single change would you make to make life in the trade better?

Sensible returns please.

This should provide interesting feedback as many of the threads I have read so far are anti TG4. Put yer money where yer mouth is and make a change for the better.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Give all TG4 jobs back to the station. We work for the RAF not a civilian company.

Re-instate CP tests and bin anybody from the trade who can type with more than 2 fingers and a thumb! (that way you know who can hold and operate a screwdriver).

Sensible returns please.

The man asked a serious question, lets not go down the ususal TG4 thread route and turn it into a slagfest eh guys.

As for me I think if money time and resources were infinite, I would put everyone back in training doing a complete retrain.

Training would be comprehensive and totally cover all aspects of the trade from IT to Radar and everything in between. No one would be exempt any aspect of it no matter what your background and previous experience is.

Obviously this cant happen so the real answer from me would be to get all the promised training courses (4001 etc) up and running asap so we can have more flexibility on what our guys can do.

If DII is to come in, transfer ALL support to Atlas. Don't have TG4 people acting as middle men. If this is needed then the adminers or a civvies can do it, no tech knowledge required.

More challenging employment is needed, more posts on mission support systems for aircraft. Typhoon, MRA4, A400M(?), etc.

serious??

serious??

They shouldn't have turned the trade into such a joke then should they???

Training can only go some of the way. You need to recruit people that took stuff apart as kids to see how it worked. We have spent huge amounts of money and manhours with the last botched assim program.

Have an IT trade by all means but keep it small and specialist. Then have a general Cis Eng trade that can work with things that take a signal and pass it around making it bigger for radar/ satcom/ radio. or just get it to the right place. To be honest I think we are too diluted and lost our way to turn it around now.

Some of these posts exist, unfortunately they are run by other TG's (1 & 2) in contravention of regs. I know that there are 4 slots in the USA run this way. Jobs like these would make it worthwhile staying in.

If you know about these jobs, have you spoken to the trade sponsor?

At a brief by him about 6 weeks or so ago, he said they are specifically seeking out these jobs to try to get them as TG4 slots, but if they didn't know about them they couldn't do anything about them.

I think it's fully accepted that other trades will defend their positions, but if it's IT then it belongs in TG4 and that's how they are playing it.

I agree that we need to be less diluted. My own experience is that I am currently running IT networks and all the associated gubbins, then, every few years I'm expected to put my "radar technicians" hat back on an go down south to run T101.
By the time I'm fully up to speed with the kit and F707's etc, I'm whisked off back to Uk to have to catch up on what's been going on in IT.

Tg 2 has gone, av/ae is now in tg1.

Don't know why they would cling on to software posts, most fairies thought software posts were dire, that I heard talk about them. They were seen as bottom of the list office jobs, but maybe not? Any fairies had such a post?

People are forgetting that TG4 have taken a large amount of posts from TG1 to support GSS. TG4 now has well over 60 posts and may well get more. There are still TG1 involved at the CT rank as it helps with the Air worthiness bit and pieces - however TG4 needs to get more comfortable with this airworthiness thing.......we will given time and education.

We have people working on UAVs and within the Tactical Imagery Wg at Marham. More work on UAV is ongoing.

Every new platform is very information hungry and will have a TG4 footprint to support it..........that is where the future lies for the vast bulk of TG4. The question is will the govt allow the procurement of MRA4, JCA etc?

A poor idea, worse excecution, liberally sprinkled with U-turns and falsehoods. The best way for it to proceed is to be absorbed in to TG2.
Like the sickly runt of the litter it is, it should be devoured by its stronger siblings.

Thanks so far, some interesting feedback. Specifically the TG1 & 2 angle.
Whats more interesting is that all the tragic soap box queens that gripe so much on how Sh**te the trade is cannot even muster a half decent attempt at putting it to rights. Says a lot in my mind!

Once again, thanks to those who actually took the time to have a think and respond. Your what the trade really needs. As for the queens, you can continue to bitch at their own pace! you know who you are!!!!!!!!

There are also 3 TG4 posts in the Typhoon Mission Support Centre.

Their role is increasing and they get to do some pretty cutting edge stuff. Shame they were held back on one project by some fcuking idiot who thought he knew how Oracle worked.... In fact, let me re-phrase that, he doesn't even know how IP addresses work within a network; fcukwit.

He brought it up in a meeting the other week and got shot down by the BAE dba, which was most amusing. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

So because we dont agree with you we are Queens ?
Well FCUK OFF you prick and as for " you know who you are " Yes we do.
You however come on here with a first post as a question (no intro or explanation). Second post is to slag people off ...

I think you are demonstrating perfectly that the trade hierarchy holds the rest of us in contempt because we won`t believe the hype and tow the party line.

T0$$ER stfu
