I was southbound on the M1 this morning around 1005 near J8 when there were 2 Sea Kings travelling North on low loaders, 1 yellow and 1 of the RN's grey/red jobs (with the Serial painted out). Presumably both redundant now and heading for? Anyone know any more about them? Just curious.
Armed Forces Covenant 2015 Cover
Good to see that as part of the SDSR the Army have been ditched and the RAF are (as always) taking up the strain. Or at least the front page of the Armed Forces Covenant 2015 Report would have it that way; Navy, Air Force, Air Force! Ha ha! Awesome! And this was presented to the Government. Surely someone must have checked it first (someone in the RAF, I guess?)! In case you want to see it in all its HD glory (not the report, that's boring!); https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/armed-forces-covenant-annual-report-2015
A story I heard recently suggested that some squadrons had as much as 50% of their manpower with less than 2 years on type as all the experience had walked. Paperwork undersigning, regular shortcutting procedures due to time and manpower issues etc, etc. So with threads on the E-Goat boards about pay, the NEM and long standing goaters hitting the PVR button just how bad is it where you are?
Could the home of RAF Golf be ours again....? DEFENCE bosses could re-open the Leuchars air base, in Fife, Scotland, in response to threats from Russian aircraft and submarines. A new fleet of maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) could be based there as part of the government’s forthcoming defence review http://www.scotsman.com/news/scotland/top-stories/raf-leuchars-air-base-could-be-re-opened-1-3928927#ixzz3pweaBXjy
https://www.rafa.org.uk/what-we-do/news/new-raf-documentary-premieres-this-sunday Who's getting slabbed then :) "A new documentary series trailing some of the RAF’s most popular display teams premieres on Sunday 11 October ‘Britain’s Ultimate Pilots: Inside the RAF’ (21:00, BBC Two) showcases the work of the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the Chinook Display Team and the Typhoon Display Team during the 2015 display season. Produced by Archie Productions (Red Arrows: Inside the Bubble, Britain’s Flying Past), the four-part series was filmed at RAF Coningsby, RAF Scampton, RAF Odiham and other locations between April and September 2015. The show follows the teams as they prepare for flypasts and displays at major...
No I don't know the in's and out's of why they have gone their separate ways but it seems a tad expensive that his soon to be ex-missus has racked up a legal bill of 85K!! Poor bu99er is going to end up with next to sod all. "As part of the settlement, Mr Vaughan's wife Donna is seeking £100,000 to pay off the mortgage on the former family home in Telford, plus £85,000 to cover her legal costs." http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2015/09/21/crippled-shropshire-soldier-in-court-divorce-battle-over-1-million-compensation/
Just read this on the RAF website ... Questions - Since when has Washington been in a member country of the Commonwealth? Is the post of Director Commonwealth Integration (3* rank?) also a new post? The cost of these types of 'jobs for the boys' must be horrendous. Has anyone got access to the latest and historical RAF Lists to see how many Air Officers are serving today compared with 50 years ago when the RAF was around five times bigger than today?
Been watching the BBC Breakfast news this week (in between weather lust - you know who I mean) there has been a series of filmed reports from Steph McGovern at the World Skills Competition in Brazil. I am certain that a UK entry (medallist?) in the Helicopter maintenance category was wearing green overalls with SAC(T) slides. Anyone know anything for certain?
Adding the post nominal VR after your name, proper recognition of services rendered or just another gimmick? http://www.raf.mod.uk/community/news/new-recognition-for-reserve-and-regular-service/ Also changes to the long gong awards to now include the commissioned members of Betty Windsors flying circus.
