If the clerk is switched on he will check to see what permanent allowances, if any, are in issue (HDT, etc.) before he actually actions the RTU. (JPA doesn't restart that kind of thing automatically). All that might take a couple of minutes, making the total time to carry out the JPA input, about a couple of minutes.

Now, there may well have been mitigating circumstances to explain why he couldn't deal with it immediately but I cannot see any reason that would have delayed matters by more than one working day.

Further to this : what does not help is that 9 times out of 10 as you are working on a movement, your phone will ring 5 times with various crisises from individuals which need to be written down or checked immediately on JPA, other "customers" will hover at your desk wanting attention, OC PSF wants his brew making - unfortunately these could lead to little mistake being made such as failing to go into a tab or tick a box before hitting submit.

Excuses I know - however something to bear in mind. If you can ask your adminer to action you as you are there. It should only take a couple of minutes and then you are both happy that everything has been done as it should.

Hey shiney.........I don't think anyone is saying that you should get it right every time. We do all make mistakes. Anyone that doesn't is either work-shy or a liar!

Distractions are a nightmare for everyone, from the lowest of the low (RAFP/Aircrew/Shineys) to the top of the tree (TG1/Chefs), but it's having the balls to admit that, whether as an individual or as a trade.

I've pestered admin staff by phone, or in person, most probably because I'd would have had to stop whatever I had been doing to sort out an admin faff and was short of time myself.

We could go round in circles forever here......YES I got paid money that I shouldn't have, and I know that I have to pay it back, and will without a fuss. I just shouldn't have recieved it in the first place. Whoever is at fault, I really don't give a crap!!! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Mate the solution to this is to shut PSF for a few hours everyday so the clerks can concentrate on doing their jobs properly without those other distractions. Then perhaps you won't get any complaints about erroneous overpayments. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

What an absolutely cracking idea.

I may suggest this to the SATCO on monday.

Anyone who has worked in PSF knows how easy it can be to get distracted by the maelstrom of phone calls, personal visits and other trivia as everybody thinks their problem/query/comment/suggestion is THE most important (which it is to them). Dealing with all that effectively is the adminers' art and some are not as good at it as we would like.

However, knowing TMG and where he comes from, I suspect the biggest distraction following his visit was that he made the schoolboy error of trying to sort his admin out on a Friday afternoon.

I'm concerned to learn that OC PSFs can't put the kettle on for themselves. When the big war comes and the ruskies are chapping at the door as an admin officer they have no use whatsoever, the least they could do is learn to make a brew for the rest of us.:PDT_Xtremez_42:

A bit off topic, but there has just been an external audit of JPA inputs for attachments at our place and they found so many errors they have now gone back 2 years, folks are getting deductions from their wages for over payments. Its all down to incorrect inputs being put into JPA by the admin staff, such as starting people on LOA, but not stopping their home to duty (or whatever they have renamed it this year!). People going on courses and living in. but not having home to duty stopped:PDT_Xtremez_42:. Admin staff knew every individual affected but did not have the guts to let them know in advance, guys and gals have found out on their latest pay chits that they have been deducted.

Sorry - - as a techie, I'll stick up for my Sqn admin staff. They let everyone affected on my Sqn know in advance of the pay chits coming out. They have helped reconcile the differences.

It will be over when all of us, both within and without TG17, realise that personal admin is now a personal responsibility. We may not like it (I certainly don't) but it is a fact. Please remember that TG17 took a 30% cut in manpower to pay for JPA. With the best will in the world we no longer have the capacity to provide the service that the great unwashed expect of us - although many still try.

Flying sqns took a 20% cut(on the Tornado Force) ot manpower - and we have to do our own admin!

Years ago, the adminer used to produce model F1771s of what you were entitled to claim. Now you have to dig through swathes of Ap/JSP to find what you are ENTITLED to. We're aircraft tech specilists - NOT admin. You do your job, we'll do ours.

Roobsta. Couldn't agree more, You know what your pubs are for aircraft, I know mine for comms, admin should know the admin one's.

My admin staff are great at my UPO. Sorted me out as soon as I got back camp off my Cpl FT.

T.M.G. Fizz the fcuker, MMA is for when personal standards have failed, the cnut failed to carry out an order. Thats insubordination

T.B.J. I'm a Jack so don't take offence.

But.

Most trades have other destractions all day every day aswell so using the destraction card wont wash. I have ended up working until 8 on a Fri night to catch up on work before, Maybe Your subordinates might want some encouragement to prioritise tasks, then write a list as not to forget. If they cant finish a task at 5, tough s**t matey, your here till the task gets done.
