Drill Bit;446671I've no idea when and never met anybody who was given a straight 15 years from signing on the dotted line.[/QUOTE said:
Off Topic Way back in 79 the CIO (AFCO) offered me 9, 12, 15 or 22. Took 9 because of the extra lots of signing on leave then available at each stage. Off Topic

I concur, took the same deal and was offered the same options. What 17 year old in their right mind would sign on for 22? Downside was that I probably would have had promotion reserve rights to Wobbly if I'd taken the 22 option:PDT_Xtremez_09:

This was all removed decades ago though in another cost cutting "Improvement Event".

You could apply for a commission!!

what would you prefer, civvy street or back to training?? ask the afco what officer branches they are desperate for and apply for them all!

No disrespect to any officer types on here but I'd rather eat my own tezzers than go through cramwell!!!:PDT_Xtremez_06:

Is it common for TG1 applications to sign on from 9 to 12 to be declined at the moment? Even if the applicant has never had any P1 issues or has never been downgraded?

Yes, its just the way things are at the moment, just keep hammering at the door.

Well i got knocked back for 12- 15 with the excuse they are't having trouble filling heavy posts. Only the to find out one lad in our place got signed on 9-12!!! he has only been out of cosford after his FT training from being a liney for 2 years! How can they say sorry your not needed and then sign someone else on. kin rubbish

9-12 applications are not given as much scrutiny as 12-15 are.

I guess that those who are applying from 12-15 are generally quite senior SAC's whom, you have to wonder why they are not already JNCOs, whereas your 9-12's are generally more junior who will have the potential to have reached Cpl by the time their 12 yrs is up, and would then automatically be offered 22 yrs.

All ACOS are doing is signing up those who are showing potential at the earlier stage, and then filling up any gaps with the plodders who had their chance to show potential many years ago.

Is it correct they do it by working out projected numbers at the exit points at the end of the engagement?

Its obviously not financially driven otherwise it would make sense to do it the other way around. Signing on somebody from 12-15 is cheaper than signing somebody on from 9-12.

Nice pollitically correct adminey answer.

9 to 12 has always been a bit of a norm and 12 - 15 a bit of a stretch. By turning everyone down for the latter they can claim parity of treatment for all and don't leave themselves open to claims of unfairness. This'll probably be done on a trade by trade basis so if you see a squipper get 15 and a plumber get knocked back the two cannot be compared.

We had a chat with the an AVM on Thursday last week.
He informed us TG5 was gapped in a bad way and that it would be 18 months to 2 years before we got the replacement manpower but that continuance was still not going to be an option.

If that's comming from the mouth of a AVM straight to the shop floor, then we are all buggered. I hope they do redundancy.

I often wonder after seeing some of the waste of skin and human tissue that has been promoted why I am still and SAC. Yes i may be blowing my trumpet someone has to, even tho my assements eem to reflect that i am quite usefula nd am not a retard. The fact that i actually work till i drop and I quite willingly have/can/will do jobs that cpls do with out any problems doesnt seem to count for sod all. The problem is im TG1. Slow at the best of times for promotion! Personally i think promotion is a lottery. And with the utter sh1te that is coming from the amm ranks lately the RAF is doomed.

But hey im not bitter i just want to do a job that i actually love doing

I don't mean to sound like an arse here but the best advice you can get right now is smash out the resettlement as much as you can and try and buy a house. You might get signed on and then you have a qualification for free and you've started down the road to home ownership, it's win win.

Get ready for civvy street.......I can't see anyone getting extended......the door only opens one way for some time to come.......good luck!

97% of my setcion is TG1 fella, and it is following a very predictable pattern - those who have clear potential are getting signed on and those who, in your own words, are "quite useful" are being knocked back. Think of it like Dragons Den, where the RAF is Duncan Bannetine - which would you choose?

Bottom line is those SACs who have done 10+ years have had at least 8 appraisals to convince a promotion board to promote them. It has not been uberly tough to get promoted in all those years - only the last one or two.
