Thanks Scoobyroo, it's good to get advice from someone who actually works for a living. I've actually rebuild the engine, so it's easy to turn. The Haynes manual doesn't state any torque settings for the valve adjusting nuts, but I shouldn't think they need more than just a nip.

4 White knuckles should do.

8 seater ???

8 seater ???

Dear bengo serious question.
Mrs TB's sister can't seem to stop producing sprogs now has 6 so 2 adults plus 6 nippers aged 11, 10, 8, 5, 1 and just born means 8 seater required but what is there out on the market other than a mini bus for such a brood. They are currently using a petrol engined land rover disco and sitting older ones on the jump seats in the back. All shopping and prams etc. have to go in a roof box. I don't even want to know how much fuel they are getting through. Any suggestions?? Would have to be a second hand motor. HELP !!!!!!!

DUREX FFS.....................!!!

Whats your budget? Thats obviously the limiting factor...

Hard to say really just a general enquiry for the wives sister and ever expanding brood she hasn't given me a figure they can afford.

Gruumpy old - Me and the Mrs have suggested they buy a telly for those quiet nights in!!!!!!!!!

Chuff chart thanks for the info have passed it on to the incredible breeding woman. Still don't know her budget though.:PDT_Xtremez_34:

a ferkin marina? get a grip.

Look, I'm an (ex) ocifer mate. Don't do oily bits. I just drive the things and know a good deal from bad.
Well then you should have been more specific about what this thread is about?
The thread did start off with:

Got a question about your car?
want a better deal from the dealer?
Got a problem with your motor?

As usual an officer makes a statement which he expects others to comprehend without thinking it through first, then makes it look like it's someone elses fault when no-one understands him.

Why don't you get a grip and stop swallowing the bitter pills?

The starting statement in this thread was made by ME and not by BENGO, he didn't even know what was coming around the corner at him and he is doing a good job giving decent info and opinions with a sense of humour. He takes the time to research his answers and I have found his thread very informative and helpful as well as amusing. It was never meant to be a Haynes manual for those too lazy to check their own valve clearances.

This is the second time you have been politely spoken to and try to remember this is the motoring forum not the fight club. any more name calling and your posts will be removed.

Understand?

Sorry, didn't realise he didn't like being called "officer". I'll try to make any future comments as humorous as his such as "a ferkin marina? get a grip". He has in fact given technical advice, so maybe he should be more consistant?

Nicely put chosen one, and thanks for the support GEM.

As for the incredible breeding woman - phew! an 8 seater that isn't a minibus? - you'll be pushing it as technically, anything that is 8 seats plus driver is right on the verge of being a minibus and anyone who passed their test after about 1997 (I think) won't be allowed to drive one on a normal licence! (MTDs feel free to correct).

The two japanese suggestions mentioned seem sensible - there's a specialist import garage just up the road from me (near the 'Camp Garage' - a name that never ceases to amuse me) and they often have such japanese monstrosities and they would seem to foot the bill. Also VW do quite a civilised minibus version of their transporter van (Caravelle) - often used by airport taxi firms - and with VW turbo-diesel power, should be driveable and frugal means of ferrying around a large litter. And it is German after all...:PDT_Xtremez_14: check out the corporate site: http://www.newcaravelle.co.uk/

And I thought I had issues finding a suitable family car! :PDT_Xtremez_08:

Thanks for the gen all. The IBW doesn't want a stock transit minibus type vehicle stuck on the drive she wants something that looks a bit like your normal people mover so all suggestions will be forwarded. Once again thanks for your time and input everybody. God help us if the brood becomes 7 + 2 in the future.

Right then *cracks knuckles* enough of the dross from the others, here's BEngO's advice:

Lisab - enough of the french dross. Time to head a little farther east to the land of the rising sun. When it comes to cheap, reliable small runarounds the Japanese have the market licked. You can't go wrong with a Nissan Micra - Mrs BEngO drives one of the current shape ones and it is a cracking little motor - she loves it. We will be looking to replace it in the spring and another micra is top of the shopping list. It's got funky styling (although I concede it's not everyone's taste), practicality in buckets, a really good driving position with excellent visibility, the tightest turning circle in it's class (making it a doddle to park) and on a run it's good (the 80bhp 1.2 litre petrol) for nearly 50 mpg - so it ain't thirsty. Older versions are brilliant used buys too and are vertually bullet proof.

Other cars to consider are the Toyota Yaris and Suzuki Swift

Let me say a big thankyou to you Mr Bengo I did indeed go for the Yaris in the end and very pleased with it I am too! Heres a pic of one similar!

So hopefully a few years of happy motoring for me, thanks again for the suggestions

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can someone tell me a good place to insurance fire a Fiat Brava....

Never, Never, Never buy one... It has to be the single most ill advised purchase (up to and including those purple hotpants) I, no make that we, have ever purchased. The parts are only available from Fiat themselves and are exhorbitantly expensive. There are no Fiat garages in my local vicinity and after only 4 months we have replaced.... 1x Fuel Injector, all leads, all plugs, bashed out dents, repaired bonnet and are about to have to replace injector no. 2. and it has an engine overun that we can't find the cause for but is fcking up my battery. Heap of poo....

I am that desperate that we are about to replace with an Escort... so......

anyone know a good place to fire a Brava (or wants to buy a nice runner, recently serviced, 4 months MOT.....)!!!!

(Rant Over :PDT_Xtremez_32: )

Had a marina for 4 years and talk about fcuking motoring on the cheap! 60000 miles , tyres, exhausts, starter motor and 2 shocks, bargain! Wouldn't like to race around Cadwell etc but there you go. Now have an Omega, ace car for a snip!:PDT_Xtremez_28:
