If the SAC board is anything to go by then people might be disappointed. We've been briefed that due to lack of phase 2 coming through Cosford, the bottom 3rd of the last board have been told well done for coming off the board but you are now not being promoted.

Spammy,If your in your last 13 months of service you are an automatic C grade. i know back in the day it was an auto A grade but unfortunatly its changed. I would have hoped you would have been told this by HR.... Rubbish i know but at least you've kept trying, Some dont and become a burden on a section. Be proud of that.....Good Luck on the outside,

The 13 months is for Sgts and above, plus a few other specific cases.
The board was for Cpls so youre only an automatic C if your discharge date is within 3 months of the board finishing. Unless youve requested discharge ie PVR, then its 13 months.

2011 - Wanted 40 pre-board. Promoted 56 (+16)
At those numbers, it's a lottery. You're only looking at a few PVR/Refusals and it'll be close.
BUT having said that, they're not promoting as many SACs as they first thought, so that could have a knock-on effect as well!
B grade again here though ... so it'd take a LOT of people turning it down for me (come on, you know you want to)!

Would love to know what the f**k has gone on with me - gone from an A grade (73, last of the A grades) to a B+, bearing in mind I had two commendations last year (AOC's and a Stn Cdr Good Show), plus the usual A- report with 2 Ranks up on the promotion recommendation.
With 3 years left to do it cant come soon enough.

Unfortunately its all down to the quality of your 1st and 2nd RO's writing skills and no reflection on how well you have performed during your reporting period. The whole A grade thing really does mean very little, its more likely to do you harm than good if the write up doesn't reflect the grade.
Also, the number of A grades are down to the promotion prediction. A Grades = 2x prediction +20 or somewhere in that ball park depending on numbers predicted. I fell foul of the same disappointment of being a B grade until it was explained to me there were only 74 A grades this year compared to nearly 200 the previous year. Its a tight year for all ranks and trades by the look of it.

I did the course this year - it's really most informative and in fact you do a dummy board (on my own TG6 coincidentally). It's amazing how easy it is for a report to be discarded as just a boring narrative of a nobody.

An RO with 3 blokes could afford to bulk it all out, whereas an RO with 15 couldn't avoid but get less industrious - less is more.
Came off today within the top ten, would have been my 10th year as a Cpl if hadnt been picked up. My last SJAR was written and re-written numerous times to get it perfect as i knew it was getting to the point of no return in getting promoted. Absolutly right about the quality of writing from 1st/2nd RO's it has to be spot on, if performance leaks into potential it's a nail in your coffin, quality evidence and good examples of everything you have done not buzz words are needed. This was my first year an A grade too having been B+ last year and 7-8 years being a B. Good luck to everyone who has missed out this year, dont accept sub-standard SJAR's next year the power really is in your court.
