Can't see them getting rid of 1ACC. They are fulfilling NATO's commitment on Op Herrick and there aren't many other mobile CRC's around in Europe! I also think they could move 1ACC back to Boulmer as one of their T101's is due to replace BZW T93. Anything's possible.

Unless you count the French!!

Surely the answer is to replace the T93 with a radar that can do the job properly. Whilst the T101 is very capable it is not a long term replacement for the T93. Gap filling is a 1ACC role, not gap replacement.

Are 1ACC fulfilling a worthwhile job on Herrick or could the AOCC(L) do the equivalent? Is there a credible enough air threat to warrant a T101 RPG-7 moving target range?

1ACC is not out there to report air threats as there is none.

AOCC(L) cannot provide the service 1ACC is, the T101 is already worth its weight in gold over there & we don't envisage it coming back anytime soon.

AOCC(L) will utilise the picture being produced by 1ACC & will allow the army cdrs to gain decent SA on where the air assets are.

The wx is turning crappy & the radar service available out there is proving rather popular with the growbags. In a nutshell, 1ACC is working hard out in theatre & would not be there if another unit could do the job as it has cost a small fortune to get the kit into theatre.

Can't really say much more without getting a Beadwindow in my ear!

There really is no requirement for 1ACC to be in theatre other than a political one. All it does is make NATO look like they are trying to pull their weight. The single US CRC was doing perfectly well on its own!

What a load of tosh!

I take it you mean the single US CRC which has absolutley no radar or radio coverage in the Helmand province? They have been banging on about getting a radar in the south for a long time now & 1ACC are unlucky enough to be the only NATO Unit, outside of the US, who have to kit to do the job.

1ACC didn't ask to go, it was requested by the Army cdrs who are in theatre. May I suggest that you actually find out what they are doing in theatre before posting comments suggesting that the guys are at Camp Bastion for no good reason.

If 1ACC are as necessary as you believe why has it taken until now to get a second radar in theatre?

having spent a few months in camp bastion this year I can say 1acc is needed and was requested by light blue due to the lack of sa in and around Helmand letting cmdrs see where jhfa assets are as the us radar is outside of Helmand wont say much more than that on here

the process was started in may to request 1acc you know how long this takes

So from October 2001 to May 2006 they got along without 1ACC and now they're imperative eh?

I'm bored of this banter. Lets get back to slagging off the SFC.

Which was the plan in the first place. drawdown Boulmer. Should never have drawndown Neatishead.

Yeah! Having visited Boulmer 8 times (Dets only, Thank God!) I always thought it was only pretending to be a SOC/CRC.
Last visited 2004 and like the new Ops Room though, but would miss the darkness when you fancied a bit of footsie with a member of the opposite sex, or hiding when the Manning Cpl wanted someone for a job - like digging big holes to put old buses in so they could be used as cells for 'prisoner' during exercises (Buchan, very late 70s) - took months!:raf:

No pretending to be a CRC now, is the only one we have (lights blue touch paper and awaits a reply from the south...)

I think you'll find that once 1ACC take over the CRC, Boulmer will be forced into giving up some of it's precious work and accept the fact that there is more than enough work for 2 CRCs. Especially on the weapons side of the house.

It's a sad state of affairs when the sqns are being refused GCI due to a lack of controllers when there are infact plenty of them sitting on their bums at 1ACC, Scampton and god forbid, Waddo.

Politics are spoiling what should have been an ideal set up.

There is not a lack of WCs at the moment and the sunny south do their fair share of flying (unless it is after 1630!!)

Not too sure about sqns being refused GCI, maybe an FA issue rather than WC? New FA course has just started so things may improve.

Dude, there is a shortage down here, can't go into numbers on here but lets just say that the 'empty' slots at Scampton are not helping at all.

The Sqns not being able to get flying is indeed an FA issue in that the planning FA at BL cannot push enough flying down to Scampton. In theory, Scampton should be able to mirror BL for sortie rates 0800-1700 but it isn't happening.

See you on Monday mate.

Would that be operations impinging on training???

Surely relocating everyone in one pot is the answer there......
