Pre JPA someone could not claim Disturbance allowance for their first move as it was seen as setting up home, has this now changed? If so does that mean the people that moved pre JPA still get nithing or can you backdate :) Dont Ask Dont Get :)

Cheers

I would have to check the JSP to be 100% certain, but I have not heard that the 'first setting up of home' rule has changed.

I was told to ram it for my first move Kernow. Maybe you have friends in high places..

Certainly according to the JSP 752 (post JPA) you can claim DA for your first move, so long as it is due to a change in your accommodation entitlement. So basically if you are single - when you get married (or enter into a civil partnership) your entitlement now changes as you are entitled to SFA. I think that you are also entitled to removals - IIRC.

Recommend you get yourself online at work and read the JSP and then go back to your admin bods.

Pre-JPA you absolutely could not claim JPA for moving from the block/mess on marriage. That may have changed - many things did when JSP752 superseded the Vol 3 - but I have a feeling the guys on my Sqn would have been very keen to point it out. It's worth checking out, but let's not give people false hope.

So how would this work:

Move out of 3rd quarter (all moves paid for previously)

Buy own place & move in.

Sell up and return to quarters.

Would you still get the DA for moving back in, seeing as it's not your first move?

Or does your clock reset as soon as you leave the quarter for civvy housing?

First of all, it would have to be a qualifying move, which usually (but not necessarily) means you have been posted to a new unit more than 50 miles from your house. If it is a qualifying move then you will get the lower rate of disturbance allowance (£969 last time I looked) plus £130 for each child who is moving to a new school as a result of the move.

OK, so buying a house in the local area, not getting posted but having to sell the house wouldn't qualify?

Not looking for a fight, honest. Just concerned.

Right, having done a quick search I found the JSP online (Barmy Army site). Here is the section that refers:

c. Undertake a mid-assignment move for Service reasons, as a result of a change of Service accommodation entitlement, or for compassionate, welfare or medical reasons when authorised by JPAC Pay and Allowances Casework Cell (PACC).

http://www.army.mod.uk/linkedfiles/servingsoldier/condofserv/mm/allowances/ss_cos_mm_all_army/jsp752ver6.doc (This takes a while to load.

I personally having read that for the first time a little while ago had thought no, however when getting married it does change your Service accommodation entitlement. Best thing to do is go back to your admin bods armed with this and take it from there.

Previously that meant moving from a 2-bed to a 3-bed when your second nipper was born. There should be a paragraph in there which specifically covers "First Setting Up of Home". I haven't got round to loading MS Office on my new (well, about a year old) PC yet or I'd have a look.

TBH on a recent case I had said no for that very reason, but was put back in my box by PSF with that paragraph. Don't want to give false hope to anyone, but certainly in the case I have just dealt with it has been approved for a first move.

Humble Scribe...... Where is my fave HR rep when I need him?

Sorry SSH, was away watching Cricket at Lords for 4 days!! In answer to your question, YES we will pay you DA for a move from Mess to SFA. The qualification is based on a change in entitlement to SFA; see also DIN 2006 02-056 which outlined the changes in entitlement on introduction of JPA. We have also paid personnel DA & removals for moving to bigger houses when another child was born! Money for old rope if you ask me but for my usual 10% consultation fee we will look into backdating your DA.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! When I got married in July 06 I applied for DA as I had a change of accomodation entitlement (from private rented to MQ's) and it was rejected for the reasons TBJ stated. I.E. it wasn't because of extra kids ect. So know it would appear that I was incorrectly informed, have I missed the boat, is it too late to get it backdated?
