Falklands 25 on BBC

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
It was on live down here on BFBS. Why was Tony Bliar at the service? Correct me if I'm wrong but did he not stand in a by-election in 1982, took an anti-war stance & came a very poor third!

It got very irritating listening to them going on about the Navy Sea Harrier this, Navy Sea Harrier that, did the BBC not realise that the RAF were flying the GR3 variant out there at the time too! Just a brief mention of the Black Buck mission. No mention at all either about 63 Sqn RAF Regiment who went ashore with the Rapiers at Port san Carlos.

Where do the BBC get their researchers from? ::/:

HRH Andrew was indeed marching, which was good to see. Did you see the look on the close protection guys face when he got out the car… Priceless.

One thing though…
Did you see the spot where they interviewed the RAF veterans who were marching towards the rear of the parade.
Were my ears US or did the ex-RAF now civi say he was ‘’humiliated’’ to be marching!!!
I hope it was a word fumble…

He wasn't in Stanley though was he ! If anyone should have been there to show the islanders they're not forgotten it was him. IMHO :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I would imagine there werent any seats left on the flights down there judging by the amount of people I saw on the telly!
Wonder if that in turn will affect personel flights home?

Some of the flights were rearranged. The VIPs had the pleasure of the 747 and the rest were crammed onto a Portugese Tristar that had to go via Lisbon on the way down!

/QUOTE]

I suppose you could call it marching, shame he couldn't walk in step with the rest.

Filched from Pprune here
Two of the 4 Chinooks, (ZA706 and ZA718) were being prepared to be flown off. Only the first aircraft, ZA718, had been completed and was airborne on a resupply flight to other nearby ships when the attack happened.

I was recently told by an ex-chinook pilot that it was on a 'test' flight to check it had been put back together correctly.

It really proved its worth down there.

RE: Prince Andrew not being there.

Could it be part of Royals not visiting conflict zones or the such after the Prince Harry fiasco???

I hope he was meaning to say "humble", not humiliated.

As for a Royal Family memeber being down south, why oh why did they send Prince Edward??? Tw@t failed his RM Course and certainly has not passed a RN Course, so why was he wearing a uniform?? I can only think of that being an insult to those that lost their lives in '82.

I was in the stands watching my Dad marching. He was at Asi with 202 Sqn SAR.

It was a really good day.

In the official programme, the Red Arrows' formation during the flypast was described as 'The Vulcan' to commemorate the Black Buck missions.

BEngO was it you doing all the cheering when the RAF contingent marched past? I was glad to get moving my feet were killing me by that stage.

Your right it was a good day the march down the Mall was one of the best bits.

Before you ask I am not BEngo's dad.

My mum and I were in a stand surrounded by loads of Paras' wives - we cheered along with them for the paras, and as I was there in uniform - they returned in kind as the RAF marched past.

which was nice.

My dad didn't know any of the other RAF veterens - but he did get chatting to the bloke who was the chef in acension when he was there.

I must say, during some of the films I had a massive lump in my throat and quite moist eyes. Very moving.

and apparently Mrs BEngO's godfather was in the navy contingent - he was a young seaman at the time and right in the thick of it loading shells on one of the ships in San Carlos bay. I doff my cap...

Vets better than the guards?

Vets better than the guards?

Having watched both the Trooping of the colour and the Falklands 25 parades over the weekend I can say that the vets on Sunday managed to put a better display of marching etc in than the Guards on Saturday __ must be the way they taught us years ago (they were allowed to shout at us then!!).
Thought Sundays do was very moving and made me feel old and well put together. Could understand the relevance of the Dominies(55 Sqn mighty bluespear) in the flypast but why the Typhoon, surely 29 was there after the scrap with the tooms!

I am sure 29 went ASI towards the end of the sh1te before the surrender

They did according to 'Falklands the Air War' which is the bible on the subject. 3 FGR2's of 29 Sqn carried out QRA on ASI from 25 May to 14 July, releasing the 1 Sqn Harriers that didn't traval down on the Atlantic Conveyer (the Harriers then either travalled down south onboard the 'Contender Bezart' or flew direct to the carriers with a lot of AAR support).

Phantoms were XV484, XV468 and XV466, and did launch to intercept a couple of Russian Bears that took an interest in what was going on at ASI when Hermes was returning from the Falklands after the war.
