Gary Speed Dies

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
One minute's silence impecably observed at Anfield this afternoon in memory of two deaths, Brad Jones' son Luca and Wales manager Gary Speed. God only knows what drove Speed to take his own life and leave a family behind at a time when Wales national team were starting to look like a team going places.

Not very often I praise the Scousers but you could hear a mouse fart at Anfield today. Great stuff.

Why exactly?

I am a member of the 'people' and have a right to express my opinions when and where ever I like about anything I like. To be honest, I have no idea who gary speed is nor do I care, I was expressing my disgust at the fact that this person's death seems to deserve headline banners across the news simply because hes a footballer and yet the death of a little girl on the same day in a tragic accident deserves nothing more than a footnote. I stand by my comment and my post has direct relevance to the subject and therfore deserves as much right to be here as your comments on condolences do.

I do have a patronising persona, I have keep it in check daily. Who do I think I am? I'm someone with whom you probably wouldn't get along with very well.

Sh1te spelling and grammar aside, if every death of a person (child or adult) were to be reported, then the newspapers would be full of nothing else. Celebrity deaths will always attract media attention. Rightly or wrongly, that is the world we live in.

This is absolutely bang on the money. The reverse is also so true!

whereas the Taffs didn't have the discipline to observe the requested minutes silence in Swansea.

I have this feeling in my water that his reasons for stretching his own neck are going to be headline worthy...just a feeling and I definately don't have an inside line.

Last couple of suicides I got visibilty of in the mob were computer related...

My spelling and grammar are sh1te cos im lazy, and I agree about the celebity bit.

The reverse? are you a difficult and stuborn bast4rd to?

Incorrect

You are a c**t

Incorrect? so you would get along with me? I doubt it.... I'm quite condescending.

The second bit is spot on though, and a big one at that, and proud.

Spelling aside again! No, I'm not usually a stubborn and difficult b@stard but I could definitely make exceptions for you. My pleasure (since April), is that I no longer have to put up with pricks like yourself.

Surely if he was a cnut... he would be of some use?! :PDT_Xtremez_35:

Anyway, RIP Gary Speed. He may have taken his own life (something which some will not agree with) but whatever the reasons I offer condolences to his family and friends.

As for the million other people that died today, whether or not the countries news papers reported it, I hope they are at peace and offer all families of the bereaved, today and everyday my deepest condolences. :S

Enough handbags gents...keep the thread on subject...take it to PM if you must.

Suicide is a cowards way out. Along with Mr Giggs I thought Speed was a model professional, but I think something very nasty is going to come out of this.
I've seen the results of suicide and can only imagine the hell his family is going through.
As others have said, well known people get press, ordinary people don't. Not right, but that's the way of the world.

Suicide is a cowards way out..

is it ? unless you have tried to do it (and been caught, and i thank the man who did) you will never know how hard the decision is to make? i was at the lowest of my life and i don't mind sharing my experience. a cowards way out maybe but when you are that low ? unless you have been there you will never know.

i will add i will NEVER think of it again, just let it go and keep moving forward.

Just my personal opinion. But yes I think it is. Take the last one I dealt with, man walked out on his young children at 0430 leaving them alone in the house. He was found 12 hours later strung up in a quarry less than a mile away from the house, it was Father's Day and he'd used their skipping rope. The reason? His wife was leaving him.
I witnessed her being sedated by an Ambo crew, her legs just went when we told her. It wasn't pretty, we weren't around when she told the children.
I've been low in my life, 2 periods of long unemployment and debts, but i've NEVER thought about it. I like life.

Off TopicBallsy post MMJ.

I don't know which side's fans started the applause but it resounded around the stadium and I thought it was a more fitting tribute than a minute's silence.

It's a shabby excuse for a lack of self discipline. The announcer asked for a minutes silence and got clapping and chanting because they couldn't keep quiet for a minute.

The act of clapping was spontaneous and in recognition of the man he was, a celebration of his life and achievements.
Even the shouts of 'There's Only One Gary Speed' were a sign of respect. They were right in the context of football and the man himself.

The people of Royal Wooton Bassett always applauded our fallen heroes for totally different reasons and always out of respect.

they were asked to be quiet for a minute, they were not asked to cheer clasp or sing and only for a fcuking minute not a lifetime. They managed it at Anfield, not a murmur but at Swansea not a fcuking chance. No discipline not even for a minute to show respect. This acceptance of applause and chanting is symptonatic of the general fall in standards. Because once it was asked for a minutes applause a couple of year's ago when some foreigner shuffled off to comply with their tradition we now sacrifice our own tradition of respectful silence because feckwits cannot keep their gobs shut for 60 seconds. I can't wait for it to affect 11th November, 2 minutes of mongish applause instead of 2 minutes silent contemplation because it easier to defend the feckwits than it is to expect them to be quiet.
