It amuses me greatly to note the quick response time by our Technically trained brethren in having a whinge. Historically, in reply, I would justify the massive diversity and skill set required to undertake our job whilst explaining about JPA cuts etc etc and acknowledging the work done by other trades. Now, really, I don't care. I was already on pop star wages and happy with my job and now I am on mega-pop star wages and still happy with my job. So thank you A1 Spec Spt and all those who spoke up for our trade, my pay rise equates to about £3.5K and I'll happily get the next round it!

Out here in the real world, the guys and girls in our HR department get paid a fraction of what I earn and rightly so. You never hear them bumping their gums about deserving equal pay.

Just checked my latest pay slip - £3800 take home. To think just over 3 years ago I was struggling to clear £1600 per month as a TG1 Cpl is laughable. £36k for a level 7 Sgt - I wouldn't get out of bed for what my old WO or SEngO are currently being paid. Thank fcuk I left that comedy outfit they call the RAF!

I agree with previous posters, the system has screwed people over, not the individuals within the trades. It is insulting to say the least and no wonder folk are leaving in their droves.

ive had enough..... PVR on monday, i didnt go through nearly two years of training, shift work which has completely ****ed me for the last ten years, working up to armpits in fuel oil / other peoples **** and ****, to feel this de-valued. Plus the fact my work has a DIRECT consequence to whether people live or die..... :PDT_Xtremez_14:

its not the shineys i begrudge getting paid a bit more its the system.

I would offer to help you complete the application but you may have noticed with the 30% cut in my trade due to the introduction of JPA, you'll have to do it yourself.......................on JPA! Seriously, if you really feel so strongly canvass opinion from your colleagues and write to your Trade Sponsor.

As a Lower Level 7 Cpl now, will I transfer across as a Higher Level 7 Cpl on 1 Apr 09, or will it be an appropriate point on the scale? I apologise for asking the suitably employed TG17 a seemingly simple question, but if I don't I'm sure somebody would.

Level 7 Higher for you mate. I realise you have been employed away from the mainstream in some of the wonderfully diverse roles we in TG17 can find ourselves without the benefit of additional training, so I forgive you the "seemingly simple question". :PDT_Xtremez_27:

Why all the shineys from NCO up have been bumped up is beyond me. But maybe they can answer a question on what happens to pay if a trade/rank is bumped down???

Cooheed, can you be more specific? Never seen anyone get bumped a pay band.

Thanks for that mate, I did think/hope that was the case. The only question I have now is do I tell the wife!!

You go onto mark-time rates, so that you get the annual increase, but have to wait until Level X catches up with you before you can get the extra increase of going up a Level. In reality, that usually means that you are on mark-time rates until you get your next promotion and then you slot back in to the higher/lower pay band with ease.

The only reason that I know this is due to the high RAFP presence at my Unit when Pay 2000 was introduced. They were less than happy to be down-banded by the first post-Pay 2000 JSJET. And did they ever bump their gums!

I am sure that this will be a rare event with our [RAF-wide] OOA turnaround times and our struggles to maintain the appropriate manning.

Surprised you didnt say "look it up, its not my job" ;)

Is TG 17 still list 2, for example, high band Sgt, level 7, on promotion to FS, would you start at level 2? Or are you list 1, FS's start at level 5?

No gripes at you guys personally, well done, the game has been played, iaw the rules, just think it de-values other trades, but there again, that started a long time ago!

Pay

Pay

:PDT_Xtremez_30:Well, this is totally justified as far as I'm concerned and agree with the comments by my TG17 bretheren. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I have to admit that annoying that it is to see the benefits of going through all the technical training(over 2 years in total), the diverse range of jobs that my trade can be tasked with (1st line/forward 2nd line/depth, industry placements, IPTs, AEDITs, software teams and god knows what else i will not winge. The reason for this is that it is not worth the effort and it devalues the excellent job that your trade sponsors have done as appossed to the cake and asre party that ours have thrown.

Lucky Shinies.

Yes, I'm a techie and I'm Bumping my gums. What possible justification could you have for being paid the same as techies.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Perhaps Techies may have to justify being on Admin Wages..

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Shame really though as this rise will stop me and the missus getting child tax credits.

The shine is definitely on the shineys this time!!!

The aircraft technical trades get shafted again and again. Higher training and responsibility mean fcuk all in todays RAF.

36 k pa for pushing a pen around?

Where do I sign up? It's got to be better than freezing your nuts off on the line, wondering why there's no more nitrogen left at 4 in the morning:PDT_Xtremez_26:.
