Howard "I am a homer" Webb

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
As a neutral I would say Webb got the red card right, the penalty wrong, Liverpool were the better team.

Webb is cnut on 2 counts, first he is a referee, second he was a copper.
He is widely accepted by everyone outside Old Trafford as "Fergies Pet"

I'm outside Old Trafford. I don't agree so there.

The referee in the last Arsenal game I saw never penalised Van Persie for a blatant hand ball, Walcott dived yesterday for a penalty, John Terry might as well play with goalkeeper gloves he handles it so often, etc etc. So either referees are closet Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd fans, or teams that lose to them get that bitter that they just lost to them again that they blame every other factor other than once again their team just wasn't good enough to beat a very good successful team. I don't buy this conspiracy theory and never have.

Maybe but there were where tackles in that game just as bad as gerrards but did he send anybody off with a straight red card.

He probably thought, WTF is going on here and didn't know how to handle it. If I remember rightly, the Dutch could have been down by 2 men in the first half alone.

All I ask is for consistency and that's something you don't get with Webb.

I can see why you're so against Webb but I think the whole consistency thing is a problem for most refs. As far as I'm concerned, it's time we used technology. People say it would break up the game but it took Giggs almost another 2 minutes to take the penalty. That time could easily be used to ask the 4th official to make the call.

Correct, whereas at Old Trafford he was in his comfort zone, knew exactly where he was and how to handle it. And thats the difference, referees do allow the time the place and the occaision to get the better of them, but the only way to change that is to replace them with robots.
Gerrard was stupid to lunge in two footed and had it been the other way round I'd have been shouting for a red as well. BUT, a minute or two earlier Mereiles avoided injury from a two footed lunge by Rafael only by pulling out of a challenge. If its the intent thats being punished and not necessarily the result, then Rafael should have seen some sanction too.

In the pub after the match just outside the ground. Have just been told by the dibble that lots of loveable, cheeky Scousers have been arrested inside the ground for "smashing up the toilets etc.". Thought they would have been used to losing by now?
As for the ref it's not like Liverpool have ever been awarded a dodgy pen at the kop end, or Gerrard has ever dived in two footed (Everton a couple of seasons ago?)......Stop yer whining, there is nothing more to discuss here, move on.

United 8 arrests 2009 Liverpool 15 arrests today. See you can beat us lol! Ps Go most weeks (work permitting) as do a number of other reds just like your true followers and your "armchair" fans, we've all got 'em!
PPs How do you think your new manager will do?

Course we can beat you, and Anfield would never have emptied so early and so fast as Old Trafford did at the end of a 4-1 reverse :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Can't be any worse than the last one really. Finished the game with what would have been a Carling Cup side a couple of years back. As long as Konchesky and Poulsen never get into the first 11 again the side can only get better.

Penalty was not a penalty Berbatov should have been booked for "simulation" took ball on after challenge, realised he couldn't cross it so fell over

Red card was bob on, can't go in feet off the ground studs showing these days like Tommy Smith used to do

TBH Man U didn't seem to get out of second gear.

Oh it must be a red shirt thing that then as UTD scumbags smashed the Pride Park bogs up twice 2 years ago after p1ssing on one of their own female fans for a bit of a giggle:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I'm with those who have said the pen was a dive. Why did the defender not just shield him instead of trying to get a leg in? Gerrards red on the other hand was reckless, should not warrant more than a yellow but by today's rules, he had to walk. It does make up for some horrendous tackles he has put in before and got away with, and wild swinging arms also. At least he is showing more heart than he did when Roy Hodgson was manager. He calls himself the captain yet he failed to motivate the team for Roy and goes missing far too often in games now.

What can you say about the worlds supposedly no.1 referee. A dubious penalty and a dubious sending off. If Liverpool had have been in the position to get that penalty he'd have waved play on. Also giving every 50/50 ball to utd. Never given anything to Liverpool in the last few years and he continues his ways.

Of course our "Honest as the Day is Long" Bindippers never seek to gain an unfair advantage do they...

Didn't think it was a penalty but Gerrard and every other footballer knows a two footed lunge is a red card. Stupid needless challenge IMO.

Spot on :PDT_Xtremez_19:

(from someone who despises Man U, and who feels that some Kopites treated Hodgson disgracefully.)

I will read on through this thread and see how long it takes Hodgson to get the clog for the defeat because we can't blame "King Kenny" pity they didn't apply the same thought to the sh!te Benitez left Hodgson with!!!!!! ( Although Paul Konchesky???? Liverpool????? WTF)
