Is Ukraine about to get messy?

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Amid concerns that Russian troops are positioned along the border of Ukraine, is it about to get messy?

My understanding is that NATO is a 'One for All & All for One' organisation with 30 members.

Out of those 30 member states eight of them rely on Russian gas for 30% or more of their national gas requirement.

So down to the big question - will those eight countries put the welfare / economy of their nation into jeopardy and vote for NATO involvement and possibly suffer at the hands of Putin ?

Getting really serious now - Orla Guerin, Clive Myrie and Lyse Doucet all reporting from Ukraine. Won't be long before we get the mournful reports.

Mad Vlad is only doing what he said he would do when he came to power, that is, to re-form the USSR and it return it to the former single state dictatorship that he grew up in. He is president for life just like his red banner waving forebears, (Lennin, Stalin, etc).

Vlad can have the place. When I visited a certain part of Ukraine where radiological protection is 'must have' the bulk of the country never caught up with the rest of the world when the Iron Curtain was lifted. I've never been to a more miserable country filled with miserable people.

I wonder if some of our woke leaders are starting to doubt the effectiveness of promoting pronouns, inclusiveness and diversity in facing off a shed load of tanks and other assorted weaponry.

Perhaps those people who like to spend their billions internationally might not fully support Putin’s unnecessary annexation of mainland Ukraine and might sort out the matter themselves.

Putin came through the ranks of the KGB before gaining the big seat and you can see that due to the tactics he uses to start a fight like fake separatists causing trouble so he has to send the troops in.

He likes a nation of people with little power or self determination. Along came Glasnost and a wall was torn down. He had to go along with it at the time but it doubtless horrified him and his gang of 'politicians'. Each time he's voted back in its a sham, and during the time when the Soviet Union fell apart him and his criminal buddies stole from the state and stored away vast amounts of wealth where the West can't find it with sanctions.

Just as a pandemic, whilst waning, still has most Western governments busy worrying about people and economy (and looking at the military for possible cuts to pay back the furlough etc), he has taken his chances in Ukraine. He wants the Soviet Union back as that is what he was born in. He doesn't care about his people or a few oligarchs bank accounts...he's alright Jack and won't get voted out unless there is a revolution.

In summary....he's started something that could grow if not opposed. He doesn't care about Russians dying to achieve it and sanctions won't work. This has all the ingredients of a war we thought may never happen in our lifetimes if we choose to resist.

ALIENS: Frost - "What are we supposed to use? Harsh language?!"

Wars cost money. Sadly, I dont think the capitalist western world is prepared to stomach even higher energy prices, fuel close to £2 a lite and double digit inflation just so Putin's invasion of Ukraine can be repelled.

At the end of the day, unlike Kuwait, Ukraine doesnt have something the West needs, and whilst that should not happen, the governments of the EU and US are more concerned with pandering to their voters than doing the right thing, which IMHO is ridding the world of Putin, just like they did with Hitler, Saddam & Gaddaffi.

Reminds me of the balkans conflict, that was a little bit of a proxy war via Serbia for Russia, they were a bit weaker in those days.

Besides natural gas, Ukraine is loaded with minerals like coal, iron, titanium, and other non-metallic raw materials. It’s the leading country when it comes to reserves of iron, titanium, and non-metallic raw materials.

There is little we can do to resist beyond sanctions and words, neither of which seem to bother mad Vlad or have a chance to deflect him from his chosen path.
NATO won't be putting boots on the ground in Ukraine.
The EU won't get into a face to face shooting war.
This small island of the coast of Europe is largely impotent against the might of the Russian armed forces.

A thought to ponder there were more people at Anfield last night watching Liverpool v Leeds than we have in Air force blue this morning. In a nutshell we, the west, will end up doing almost nothing and 2 years from now Ukraine will still be in Russian hands
