Im just sitting here thinking about the days leading upto joining up and the subsequent attestation.

So where did you join up. Would be interesting to see which CIOs joined up at (or AFCO for the newer members)

Here goes:

Even though im a Jock. I actually went through the joining up process at StHelens CIO located close to Shaw St station & my attestation was at the Liverpool CIO, not sure of the street/road name, but it was very close to Lime St, and if you walked down the street, you came to a museum/library.
After doing the old swearing on the bible bit, they gave us some tokens to go and eat next door at Wimpeys/Macdonalds...something like that.

To the floor.

I had to go up into England to attest!!
Got the train up to Plymouth and got £50 from the CIO for me trouble.
Found out at Swinderby that the £50 was an advance of wages!:PDT_Xtremez_30:
They were right though, it is grim oop north!

Among about 400 other youngsters, I got off the train at Cosford in 1960. We wer led away by what seemed like an entire battallion of REGIMENT types all asking us if we'd like to go - this way. Split into groups we trooped into a wooden hut where some Officer bloke administered the Oath (I always remember the bit with "and her heirs and assigns"). We were politely asked to leave and form up into something resmbling a flight outside.
Then the shouting started. 18month later it stopped.

i joined up and attested at the aberdeen cio on april the 1st 97 :PDT_Xtremez_42:
im still waiting to see the funny side of the joke:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Plymouth CIO in 1999. Rather than putting it somewhere sensible like the city centre, I seem to remember it was at one of the Navy sites and full to the brim with WAFUs.

2nd July 1975 - Edinburgh CIO on Hannover Street - The attesting Officer was called Sally Whiskerd and - she really could have kept HER hat on!

Aptitude tests and paperwork at Oldham CIO, which used to be on Union Street (I think). CIO closed when they moved to big ones but curiously the last time I was home the Army still had an office up by the Post Office.

And I did my medical the day after my tests up in Manchester at the old CIO, when it was up on Fountain Street close to Piccadilly. Think it's down by the Free Trade Hall now.

Did my attestation up in Manchester as well on 27 Jan 87 and I remember the CIO guy not knowing what an ASOp was!

You are right, it was Union Street.

I used exactly the same CIO's as you and attestation was on 01 Jul 85 :PDT_Xtremez_30:
