Hi Bigjd.
On the lines of what Monty just said. There is sport out there, the only problem is it's not that easy to get the time off to do anymore. I know of one lad who plays Rugby for the RAF but has missed several practice sessions in the past just due to manning problems. There was a time when, if you played sport for station or service time off was no problem. Now it's just lucky if you can get the time off at all nowadays. I don't know what the AFCO have been telling you but you are entering an Airforce which is going through a few problems at the moment(manning just one of them). If you still want to join up be a bit paitent about your sport, you can get to do some but it won't be much. As Monty said, there is not enough folks currently available to cover for you.:S

Well im not just hoping to join the RAF for sport I do love the job as well had a good look around and the chief tech at one of the hangars at RAF Leeming had a good chat with me so I know what im in for in that sense ;) Of course any sport I can do is a bonus but it's not looking good for me when it comes to joining the RAF anyway due to a past condition the medical staff don't seem happy with.... despite the fact there is feck all wrong with me :(

But yeah I understand if I do get lucky and make it through I wont be able to run off and do sport every day haha but it will be a huge bonus if I can get the odd rugby match in now and again I just love it too much :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Anyone got a link to (or can tell me) the current fitness test standards? ie - the standards prior to Oct 07. Fitness test due and I want to know the bare minimum to do to p!ss the pti's off! :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Is the 'Search' button that difficult to find? :PDT_Xtremez_34:
You have to tell the "nue" lot "where" to find the "search" button...might contravien some law in the uxbechistan if u told them to find it yourself you lazy feckers !!!!

Crack on..............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

:PDT_Xtremez_43: :PDT_Xtremez_43: :PDT_Xtremez_14:
They probably couldn't give a rats backside if you only go to the minimum level. All it means is that they don't have to watch your fat blubbering body attempt to make the required level any longer than they need to.

Or get out into the real world where they are not used...u choose.
:PDT_Xtremez_09:

You have ALL the smarts to make the choices.............don't whinge afterwards !!!!!

Crack on........................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

It's not that hard is it? you run for a bit, get the level required and job done. Christ, for some people you'd be thinking they wanted a pound of flesh everytime you went to do the RAFFT.

Well the level required does mean you will have to spend some time on your physical fitness all year round. I think their complaint is how little time they have in which to do this fella ::P:

Yeah, I've heard the complaints myself, usually in the Sqn bar 'never have a moment to myself, me. Do ya want another pint?'

The RAFFT is no big deal. If you have any personal pride (SO THAT'S ARMOURERS AND MOVERS OUT:PDT_Xtremez_17: ) You should maintain the required level of BASIC FITNESS anyway. If not. get out to lunchtime circuits, or just get those silver shads back on your feet and crack on!

C0ck, like personal pride has anything to do with what trade you are. What trade are you then? I'm sure we could all identify fatties in any trade.

Personnel are entitled to have their lunch break you know by eating....LUNCH. Time should be allocated during the Working hours if it's part of the job.

That obviously depends on were you work, you clearly have far to much manpower if you have time in the day to sit down and eat !:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Can't really comment much more on day to life in the RAF as I am not in yet :PDT_Xtremez_09:

I can agree with you though that some people may whine because they can't be arsed as I have met countless people out on civvi street who talk about fitness but never seen to get off their arse and do it!

But in some cases family life and work can get in the way and people need some downtime I mean if you where to work all the time and spend the little spare time you have looking after the kids and doing fitness making no time for yourself you are gonna end up feeling pretty crap haha

Your spare time, if any, will depend on what trade and workplace you end up at. Some people have shedloads of time (and the much fabled lunchtime) for fitness purposes, others spend all their time firefighting (not literally but dealing with constant crises).:S

Well if I get in I will be an Avionics Engineer I don't know how much spare time I will have I imagine it will be a fairly busy job to be honest it appeared to be on the 2 day trips to Leeming I did :PDT_Xtremez_17:

Well if you're gonna be a fairy, it totally depends on which jet you end up working on as to how busy you're gonna be. Although as all the RAF's jets get older you will start getting busier. Just try and keep out of ARF at Lossie otherwise you'll die of boredom. (Fairy wise only, obviously)

You'll spend the first 2 years of your career doing 90% flight line servicing, so chances of getting time off for anything will be slim. Once you pass our FT course and become an SAC (T) like GFF said, depends on your aircraft type (I think all Fairies are lazy though!:PDT_Xtremez_14:)
