Yeah my old man said I would start as a liney for a couple of years but he loved it haha. Not completely sure what aircraft I will want to work on yet mind :) But I doubt I will have any real problems keeping fit being single and obsessed with sport :PDT_Xtremez_15: Time will tell though :PDT_Xtremez_14:

I shamelessly ripped this of Pprune but it certainly makes for an interesting read.

http://www.polfed.org/1104testing_times.pdf

It outlines the police policy to fitness tests with regard to male/female disparities.

Pay particular attention to this statement;

FAQ No.1

"1. Why don't we just have a
lower pass mark for women?
A recruitment fitness test must test
for the physical ability to do the job.
Men and women don't undertake
different roles in the police, so they
should take the same tests. If there
was a lower standard for women,
and a male officer passed the test
at the “woman's level” but failed
to achieve the “man's level” he
would have failed simply because
of his sex. He would have a claim
of direct sex discrimination."

I know the leaflet is dated Nov 04 but the home office issued guidelines to stop any discrimination proceedings in 2003.

A very fair statement fella but the thing is with the armed forces they are one of the only organisations that are allowed to descriminate between sex hence women not being elligible for the Regiment etc

I do agree that women should have a similar fitness test standard to men but many people could argue against this and many people will. The military have the right to keep standards different and even stop someone joining a certain area of the services due to their sex and i imagine this will remain a fact for many years to come :(

Sad but true im afraid but if I have missed something please feel free to correct me :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Probably one of the reasons they have never gone ahead with chucking someone out for failing a fitness test....I've had a "1 to 1" with a couple of pedo's who had threatened admin and dismissal action if i didn't reach the required standard.

I always made sure i was above the female level for my age and the last time i asked her to go for it "to see what happened".....funny old thing...NOTHING happened.

Crack on....................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

What? Are you saying we shouldn't have male nurses in the military?

I agree with your point about women in the regiment however this example reflects a very small percentage in the service overall. I fail to see how the RAF can justify such large differences between male and female pass standards. A woman of the same age as me can pass the fitness test while I have to run another 2.8 levels, how can that be justified ? Also the difference between the male and female "deep blue" level is almost 4 levels !

Feck me. Level 5.4 for a copper, :S I haven't put my zimmer frame down to get to that level. :PDT_Xtremez_15:

It must be a different test mate, they only run 15 meters. (at least I fecking hope its different) :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Quite an assumption there fella let me just read over what I said previously to see if nurses where mentioned errrrrrr nope! :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Fitness Test

Fitness Test

The fitness test is just that a test of your fitness.

The RAF are very careful not to relate the fitness test to ability to achieve a certain task, because it would then not be able to justify the difference.

This is why on the ever so small typeface leaflet there is all this baloney about living longer and spending our pensions for longer because we will all extra old when we eventually die, although our hips, knees and ankles will be shot.

The Regt have a task based fitness test that is the same for all Gunners regardless of sex.

You don't get female gunners.....

Although I have seen a few girly ones...

so whats the gen with everyone else's remedial stuff? up here as ISL we have 3 mandatory circuit sessions a week instead of the fitlinx which i think is a good idea as alot of people i know would just sit on the bike or do a wee bit on the x-trainer which isnt gonna get you through the test tbh.
I'd still rather do the beep test on a running track like it was origionally ment to be!

Fitlinx was one of the good ideas they had but very badly implemented.......a great way of tracking what people do and how long they do it for but no help from a PTI when needed as they were always too busy preening in front of mirrors.

Circuit sessions are great IF you can get to them (Most sqns at ISL will not be able).....except eng o's cause they can dissappear at will and "be busy"........fecking wasters

Crack on...............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

And it slightly painful in parts, especially with most bits shot :PDT_Xtremez_42:

The Armed Forces CANNOT discriminate between sexes as they are not above the law. Not allowing women to serve in front line infantry and armour units is a completely separate issue that was dealt with when women were allowed into previously unavailable trades such as pilot etc.

If you are threatened with dismissal for failing your fitness test but you have achieved the equivalent level for a female pass then they are breaking the law as they are punishing you on the basis of your gender. They changed the female press up because of sex discrimination issues.

I stand corrected but to some degree sexual discrimination must be lawfull in the military with women not being able to partake in direct combat roles such as marines/paras/regiment ::P:
