NEED more Civ Pol

I've been hearing about mobile PDA's since I joined. I wont happen because of the lack of memory on the devices. There is too much paperwork. I work single crewed every single shift apart from nights. PCSO's arent a good deal. They get paid a few grand less than a brand new bobby and have no workload or responsibilty. Other than to double our workload by reporting poxy things to us. So while the government make their role so appealing, who the fcuk wants to be a copper for a few grand more with all the sh1t we get.

My mate who works for Morrisons as a night shift supervisor takes home more than me on a basic salary. FFS MORRISONS!!!

As a Bobby I will agree, more civvy scuffers needed. Less "management" and "Office workers", More Bobbies on the beat/street/doing a coppers job. If you want a good idea of what a coppers life is like, buy and read "Wasting Police Time" by PC David Copperfield. FAF.

I bought this book a few weeks ago when I was delayed at Heathrow while waiting for a flight home - it's an extremely well written, no nonsense account of life as a modern day bobby - and hilarious too!

PC 'David Copperfield' gives a full, frank and satirical view of modern policing in the UK; his accounts of politics throughout the police service are both humerous and thought provoking!

It's a brilliant read and it certainly backs-up everything that Minor has stated about life as a bobby these days. I can certainly appreciate why he is looking for a career change...

They keep assuring us they are introducing more measures to return officer to the beat, such as PCSO's and computer terminals in cars, streamlined paperwork, reduced forms etc.

This starts when?

The latest re-org of the RAFP means alot of NCOs will be working as a singleton, as do many civpol, and are working on certain shifts to target crime, on call other times.

Before we go over board and potentially mislead on this, can we agree that this is where the similarity between the RAF's finest and Civ Pol ends...?

Actually dont bother, after reading your posting history I can see you just like to be Mr Controversy. But then again all medics just push out tubigrip and brufen and send you to a real doctor for anything serious dont they?

Aside from response there are numerous specilisations (this is where civpol gets really good) opportuninties for promotion, a quality pension, generous leave allowance and on the whole decent folk to work with.

Civpol don't need negative attitudes they need the RAFP 'Can do' ethos. If this isn't you then please don't apply, there are enough whingers in the job as it is.

I miss the RAFP a lot, especially the travel and the level of banter, but I have found the civpol work to be far more interesting and a far greater/rewarding challenge. I'm not having a swipe at the RAFP, just expressing my views on the subject.

What era did you work civpol? As i can speak for 2 forces that i have worked for in the last 5 years. There is no morale. Even with specialist depts due to funding shortages and cut backs. Ok the pension is damn good. But life isnt about money. I'd much rather be doing a job i get satisfaction from than spending the next 25-30years being a miserable cnut thanks to a job. Believe me. I have the "can do" attitude and god i try. But people with more pips on their shoulders bar us from doing what needs doing as they are worried figures/stats wont come tumbling in. The job has gone very much dog eat dog. There are some bobbies i'd put myself infront of a bullet for. Unfortunatly its bobbies pulling the trigger. Everyone is out for themselves.

Civpol rewarding! I dont think so. The amount of reg 9's (complaints) i have had for following orders and protocol are unreal. And the *******s upheld 2 of them despite our PSD dept being on my side for a change. I can tell you that there are thousands leaving across the country.

What was the difference then? Procedures, treatment, conditions, officers themselves? It would be interesting know what differs between the 2.

As a civvy copper myself, the job is on **** street. There is so much internal politics and stats now we cannot do our job properly. We are governed by figures and results. I cant tell you how nice it is sometimes to say i'm going out on patrol to find some work (to do this is rare as rocking horse ****) Which is why i'm leaving the civpol and joining the Rafp. I've had a titfull of it.

Mememe, firstly, what a t*at for being nicked not once, but twice in the first place!!!!! And who actually cares how you were treated by either agency, you shouldn't have broken the law in the first place!!!

As far as Civ Pol and RAFP go, do we both not need more bodies to do the job! Civ Pol are getting more chav's/p*ss heads/knife crime etc to deal with and we, at this unit at least, seem to be getting more domestics/dependants acting up etc and dets on top as well! In fact would national service or boot camps be an idea?!?! Take the scrotes off the streets, less paperwork, more beat patrols!x

I understand that there's still an argument about whether Bobbies on the Beat are worth the money. I can't understand this as, what with manning cuts, Reports and all that bloody paperwork, it strikes me that there would be a reduction in the need for all that paper as there could be less crime !

A pal of mine just passed his Inspector exams. He reckons they are drowning in paperwork. . . . . .
