Still don't understand do you?

Still don't understand do you?

Does it really feckin matter??

.......
Lets face it the main gripe is that we are now on the higher pay band, and the techies dont want the possibility of working in a commcen (dont blame you by the way as there is sod all practically to do in them now).

You really don't get it do you? The main gripe is the de-skilling of the trade, the dependancy on contractors and outside agencies. My main gripe was the TS who really never understood TG3 and would argue till he was blue in the face that we were not an engineering trade and that all the legacy kit will be gone by now?

:PDT_Xtremez_42:PS surfing the internet, forwarding on ?FUNNY? emails and watching TV do not count as doing 3 jobs!:PDT_Xtremez_32:

You would be surprised at what I get being a lowly ex TG11, do you honestly thing the constant contractorisation doesnt grip on us aswell. And the fact that your TS got rail roaded and didnt stick his head up is hardly our fault is it?

and as for your last comment, no they dont count as 3 jobs, that would be a productive tea break.:PDT_Xtremez_14:

My personal veiw is 'playgroup 4'. People sent out to pretend to be techies, not saying they couldn't do the job, but that would take a far higher level of training than what they currently receive. As always some, through natural ability stand out, while others i've met can be trusted with keys or anything else shiny. Tech's where trained to be techs, using pragmatic and logical progression to deal with faults, the new breed think the 'split half' is a way you can eat a bourbon. I'm not having a pop at them, i'm merely saying they are not sufficient to do a vast number of tasks you could easily give to a TG3 SAC. I Strongly agree that:

It's up to those of us already here to make sure they have the chance to do that. TG4 may well have beenforced upon us but we need to make it happen so that we don't end up looking like a bunch of mugs.

This is what has to happen

1 word... BEAUT!!!

Do you not think that the new TG4's are taught how to fault find.. you think we sit there with our finger up our ass ...

We might not be taught to the same level as the old 3's but considering most of it is swapping boxes theres no requirement to get down to component level..

We might not be taught to the same level as the old 3's but considering most of it is swapping boxes theres no requirement to get down to component level..

So what do you do when posted to a unit that requires work at component level then?

That'll be the old 3's left with those jobs then while the new 4's get all the nice shiny Cisco course and postings. My, this trade gets better and better.

PVR is the future.

And there is the problem DM, too many just want to work in cushy IT posts. There is still a requirement to work at Spadeadam, 3rd line maintenance bays and the rest of the legacy kits - which are not all black box swapping. If the BITE fails, what do you think happens? Just press reset until it eventually works?

You cant blame the TG4 personnel for thinking about the IT side of life when its all they have had thrown down their neck for the majority of the time they have served. Even the name of the trade now suggests a major IT role

As for the Spadeadam posts etc.. surely this is where the 4001 course has been put into place to allow for that crossover?

We didn't pick the name! We got a choice to amalgamate 'Stay or Go!' and then if we stayed we had to endure a 3 weeks course in NT4 and exchange 5.5 to make us TG4. I've recently left a section that was still running NT4 and exchange 5.5 and the TG4 guys there had never touched it and didn't have much of an idea as it does not have active directory. So ICT tech still might be strong as a trade name!

As time goes on Dicky you'll find the RAF employees a lot of things that sound great but aren't all they are cracked up to be. Please don't take this as a personal attack on the trade, its just venting frustration! I joined to get my hands dirty in kit and had a cracking first tour at Odiham in ground radio. Then TG4 happened and kit has slowly been replace with contractor maintained box swappable kits that no one can touch. IT is slowly being replaced with DII as well. So what then? An ICT Tech with no computers he can fix?

Oh right, that's why there are CN4000 people currently working on the kit at Spadeadam?

I think you'll find that many of the new guys think that the IT posts are ****. Especially with DII whereby they are essentially glorified middle-men. ASR form anyone..?

The 4000 course was never designed to produce TG3 types. It teaches the techy basics, with a heap of IT thrown in, as this is allegedly 'the future'. It's a shame that the new guys are being taught things such as PC maint and server etc, as when the whole RAF is DIId they will never get to use them.

Tg3 - tg11 = tg4

Tg3 - tg11 = tg4

What really annoys me is that I went throught TG3 trg at Cosford done my 1140 and all the rest of the good sh!t that makes us TG3 techies.

Where as TG11 did a couple of minutes on how to answer a phone and learn how to type quite fast which most people even techies can do like 30 wpm,

thats not it tho,

The merge our trades and there are and i know of some that are quite happy to take the pay rise onto higher

BUT

THERE F*****G COLOUR BLIND!!

Thats what grips my Sh!t

Rant over.:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Although I sympathise 100% with the gripes us TG3 guys have over the changes to the trade we have gone through since the early 90's, all I have to say on it now is HA!! Don't care any more, somebody elses problem now. I have only got 2 more working days in this job and not very long after that I will be a Mr.!! See the ticker below!!

What colour blindness check?

What colour blindness check?

THEY'RE F*****G COLOUR BLIND!!

TG3 grammar - brilliant!

Don't worry though, we'll give the intelligent ones a skills discriminator - as I've said before I still like the 4th prop blade idea...

Maybe we could give the ones that aren't colour blind a green one and the ones that are colour blind a red one! Then again, the stacker who dishes them out could not be colour blind...

I know - just send all TG4 out to wire a plug up and switch the appliance on when complete. It may not get rid of all the colour blind ones, but it should get rid of a few...

Anyway, I love radars - sad, I know. You don't have to be able to fix them these days as the nice contractor won't give you the bits to do so!

Ah, OSM! Sad to lose you. :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Good luck working for a living.

Maybe you can pick up a contractorized TG3 job somewhere... :PDT_Xtremez_35:
Are you still TG3 really? Not assimilated and all that?

Well done!

Not still TG3. Assimilated twice. Still think of myself as an old school L tech TC really. Sad I know. Done proper TG3 stuff for 15 out of the 22 years. Still doing it now! Well, should be, instead of writing on here!!

Computers can also run spelling and grammar checks! ;0)

Any real TG3 on e-goat?

Any real TG3 on e-goat?

Is there a need for a poll?

As a now "obsolescent" trade, how many current TG3 (i.e. not assimilated to the TG4 borg) are left out there?

I know of at least 3 at my current abode...

Computers Getting Clever

If it's giving you that much of a hard on, start a thread with a poll & see if anyone bothers answering.

Wasn't really a problem for us techs.
The requirement for a DE was Maths, Physics and 2 other O levels, Eng Lang was considered an advantage, not a necessity.
As long as you could get the basics across on a 720C a pedantic approach to the spelling was largely irrelevant, but then again.... we weren't expected to perf up the COs golfing appointment with his mate at Cottesmore at Friday lunch........ woe betide any TPO that got his apostrophe wrong on that one.
