Pers Admin Name Change

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
The IBN has been out for a wee while now and details the changes to a number of trades: Pers Admin to Personnel Support, and a whole raft of trades to come under the logistics umbrella e.g. Logistics Chef, Logistics Driver etc etc

Haven't seen it as yet, but does this mean we are going the way of the RN and becoming Logs (Pers)?? Someone did say the RN were looking to change it again.

I'm not sure about this name change, in civvy street it's definitely HR, very few organisations have personnel departments, on the whole the forwarding thinking ones don't. I think this name change suggests that TG17/Admin(Sec) isn't moving with the times. I think TG17/Admin(Sec) should align it's terminology with Civvy street, It'll certainly make the transition to civvy st much easier.

On a more positive note, well done on the upbanding, I wished I hadn't PVR'd and left in Feb for 5 minutes...

New name does what?

New name does what?

It's hard for me to know what effect this huge name change will have on recruitment, which is one of the main reasons for the change, as I'm not a civi I don't know how much of a difference Personnel (Support) make over Personnel Administrator.

Missed chance for recruitment, but the name change may have been for another reason, sounds a bit like Staff & Personnel Support to me, now where have I heard that before?

it's all fekking dog bollox regardless of how you try and dress it up. There is definitely one name that could be universally adopted for TG17 and that is skivvy !!

We really really need to move away from aligning ourselves with civvy street, even more so with pretensions that we are involved in HR. What that means out in the real world has no connection with some allusions that we are being lead to believe.

There are some positive aspects with regards to accreditations et al, however why not just go down the whole route and just call us A1 Admin !!

What's in a Name?

What's in a Name?

Not sure about recruitment, but I don't believe that changing our trade title has any effect on future employability; getting prepared to leave by using the education opportunities available does.

Civvy recruiters do not understand our titles, so you write in the language that they understand and the title Personnel Administrator does not appear anywhere on my resume. Of course if they specify a certain civqual (is it still called CIPD?) then having done one while in the RAF would certainly help.

I agree with Busby that Personnel (Support) sounds a little to close to our 'Army equiva' (nope, can't bring myself to finish/use that word), 'Army Clerks'.

I think you should use the civvy terminology, the same HR principles/theories apply in the RAF as they do Civvy St. The bulk of TG17 will leave before the 55 point and will need to work, you might as well face the fact that you'll have to adopt the language of civvy street if you are to be taken seriously at an interview and have a hope of getting an HR job.

As for professional accreditation, it is CIPD. Having just spent 2 years part time at Uni I know you'll have to adopt civvy terminolgy to be taken seriously and pass the course. The only reason I make the point is because I know it is tough making the transition, however the rewards for doing so are very good.

Adopt Civvy language...what a load of utter Bollxxxx; And the majority of every trade leaves before 55.. pillock!!!!
its called the real world!!
I'm doing Project Mgt at the moment and yes, different language but thats life, the RAF has addopted different languages now in case you hadn't noticed.

Anyway, one of the CT's in our place just spoke to PSF/BSW or whatever they are now, and he was lucky....they are only open to the station on Mon, Wed and Fri!! Higher pay and less work!! F*****G waste of bloody oxygen!!!
I am really peed off with admin as a whole anyway so just needed that rant. Thanks:PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25::PDT_Xtremez_25:

The civi language you are probably on about being used by the RAF are probably all the bluff and blunder bull5h1t buzz words that hang around lean teams and such like.

There is a general impression that following such a long drawn out process a name change from Personnel Administration to Personnel (Support) is a bit of cop out just to sound like the Army Clks, probably the same for Logs guys, RLC anybody.

PSF/BSW opening hours, if you lot are doing your own admin, as you seem to think you do, nowadays then why do you need PSF/BSW to be open 24/7, come on move with the times

Bored with anti-clerk rants. Bored with only half a story. But not bored talking about our impending pay rise.

In recognition of our new-found status, how about:

Aircraft Engineering (Administration).:PDT_Xtremez_27:

(He says, desperate for a bitter and twisted teccy to take the bait!)

We need you to be there so you can sort out crap JPA inputs that we cant change etc etc.
You should be there 24/7 especially now yer getting same pay as those others that do 24/7 in high band world...I'd def expect it!!!! but thats another thread.

So when someone phones the Sqn at 1215, do I say "sorry, lunch, call back at 1300!!" I DONT BLOODY WELL THINK SO.
BSW=Base Support Wing....then SUPPORT!!!!!!

If you turn up to the med centre and demand non-emergency treatment there and then what do you get? An appointment when available.

If you turn up at the JRM at 09:30 and demand a full breakfast what do you get? A large portion of short shrift.

If you or one of your family have a welfare emergency in the middle of the night, what do you get? Duty clk to initiate help whatever the time or day.

Most HQ are manned through lunch anyway so if you are in deep doo doo then you'll generally be seen so stop moaning and move with the times...

I'm with KG on the reply. Was trying my hardest to come up with an amusing reply to BB, but then I saw Busby and KG's reply and thought they've beaten me to it!

The bit that makes me chuckle the most is that techies really dislike us adding to their 'technical' threads, but think nothing of adding to the admin ones. Could be a case of more O grades than I can shake a stick at doesn't match up to mental agility...

And before anyone gobs off about studying harder at school, AFCO XXX offered me fairy/rigger/heavy (yes any one of the three) status, but I chose to be a shiny as I could! But then again, they also offered me Rock and Stacker and those two I told them to poke off with! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Oh and KG, how easy is RW on the eye?

I still think SCRIBBLIES is the best name.

It's got a certain warmth and friendliness about it and sounds more trustworthy than the cold robotic tag of HR Administrator.

All shineys worth their salt should be proud to be called a Scribbly.

TW

personnally I think that
Chaps Under the charge of Normal/negative data Transfer is an appropriate name
(read the Acronym)

Yours
Currently under a 20% pay reduction due to a JPA F***-up

Think he means only the words he capitalised. Which doesn't make sense....
Could be the reason for a 20% pay drop though. :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Too true mate ;) Been saying the same thing for years! By the way, is there anything more annoying when you're sat in PSF during lunch, you answer the phone and some techie says "I know it's your lunch hour, but just a quick one for you....." Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Any thoughts on our new trade name 'Personnel (Support)'
What pr!ck sat there and thought that was an improvement on administrator? I hate all the 'HR' bollox going around too, but would have seen that as a more appropriate name than the one they've gone with.

I like "Administrative Specialist" !!! Now that we're on higher pay band etc.............

And another thing (totally unrelated to anything else, but just surfaced in my brain) - wht the fook did we ever have to maintain stats for Anthrax Immunisation when we have medics in the RAF?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wibble.

A bit like us having to do our admin when we have admin clerks ;)
